Re: Navteq/Chrysler Update CD

The last nav update I got for my WJ was able to be downloaded and burned to dvd+r. Just have to wait for that mistake to happen again.

Re: Navteq/Chrysler Update CD

I finally got some time to look at the owner's information on the CD that came with the Jeep. For the 430N (Garmin) the website for an update is www.garmin.com/chrysler No update is available at this time so the 430N users should be up to date. For the 730N (Navigation Technologies) you would need the disk set that came in the mail. I called NavTeq and they said the last update was June of 2010 and they had no updates for 2011 yet. So all the 730N users should have the most current information that NavTeq offers if your Jeep was made after June. Seems everyone will get the two disk set in the mail if you bought a Grand Cherokee. Now I cannot prove the info for the 730N because I do not have that nav set. If my info is incorrect please correct me.

I just updated my Garmin nuvi 660 with the freshly released 2011 map base so we know that Garmin now has the 2011 map update. Wonder how long it will be before we can have it available for the 430N, what it will cost, and if there will be a lifetime update available as there is for other Garmin products.

Re: Navteq/Chrysler Update CD

Probably a stupid question but will the 430N read the update disc?

The update isn't on a disc, it is a download to a computer that's connected to the Garmin nav unit via USB cable. The update is keyed to the physical nav device so you can't update another device with it. That's where they get their $99 lifetime update price per device. I did just send in a customer query to Garmin asking when the 2011 map update would be available for the Jeep and also if they would have a lifetime update price for the Jeep updates like they do for their other Garmin devices. I'll post any response I get from them.

I just received this from my query to Garmin. Doesn't look good for lifetime updates at a reasonable price. It does appear that there will be an update available in the first quarter but no indication of whether we'll have to pay for it or not. Again, this is for the Garmin equipped 430N...
"The map updates for those devices are not available yet. They are not eligible for the lifetime map updates either. They should be available around 1st quarter of 2011. Continue to check www.garmin.com/chrysler for updates."
