Need facts on installing nav

Helo all. I have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee with installed and operating u connect.
I activate the u connect through either the button on the steering wheel or the radio.
I am considering purchasing a navigational unit removed from a 2012 SRT 8.
will this be a plug and play? or will I need additional items for everything to work properly?

Re: Need facts on installing nav

Starting with the 2012 models, the media center has to be flashed by a dealer to operate. It is a theft-deterrent measure. Be prepared to prove (receipts, etc) that you purchased the new nav unit from a legitimate recycler or source, and that is is not a stolen unit. That is assuming the dealer will do it for you, some will not due to liability concerns and other reasons (ie: they want you to buy a new unit from their parts department and make more profit). Best to talk to your dealer before you purchase the used unit. You will need the serial number of the vehicle it was removed from, and the 4-digit code it was originally programmed with (the only way to get the code is to look it up when installed in the original vehicle, make sure you get the code with the unit).

2011 and units are pretty much plug and play. Make sure you get one from a 2011 GC with the proper faceplate and screw locations. Units from most other Chrysler products are different.

Re: Need facts on installing nav

I installed a nav unit with anti-theft on a 2012 also, seller provided me with the code. The install was plug and play. I don't have uconnect though but that should not be an issue since you have it already.

Thanks for the reply. Did you have to purchase a seperate nav antenna in order for your navigation to work or dose the the nav have a built in antenna to receive navigation signal. The model Im looking at is 730N RHR. Was that your model? Thanks.

If you have sirius on your radio now then you won't need another antenna for the nav. Jeep was nice enough to put nav and sat together.

I have a 2012 as well! Question for you. Why not get a aftermarket nav like the kenwood 890 it's the new 2013 line and has wayyyyyyyyy more features then the 730n not to mention all the complaints about the 730n on jeep forums. The kenwood comes with garmin navi and well what's better then that? It has two USB ports hd radio 2 things the 730n doesn't. You won't have to worry about codes or dealers flashing it over

You'll need an adapter cable for Uconnect for the RHR, do a bit of searching and you should find threads on it.
