Need some help

So I just bought a new 2012 JGC with the 430 Media Center (RHB) with the uconnect and nav. I didnt get the 8 speaker setup but the 6 speaker. From what I found thru research I have 6x9's in the front doors with a 1" tweet in each side. The rear has 6.5's in the doors. I want to replace all stock components and run either a 5 channel amp or 2 amps (1x4 channels and 1 for sub). I don't want to repalce the head unit, but would comsider it down the road if I could keep all of features.

My question is does this head unit have pre amp outputs? I haven't been able to locate any information on what the back of the radio looks like. I really don't want to break apart a brand new dash to find out if possible. Also, from factory is the head unit powering all the channels of speakers or is there a stock external amp somewhere?

If I replace all the factory speakers with the same size units how does the ohms work out on the front? What I mean is, in my previous car I ran components 6.5 in front and rear. There aren't any 6x9 components so if I left 6x9's in the doors and ran the extra tweeter does the amp see that as one line or does it change the load?

I dont hate the stock setup but going from a car with full MB Quart Q series components and a Rockford T3 12" sub to this isn't going to cut it. I have come to appreciate a certain level of clarity and enjoy listening to my music at moderate levels.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Re: Need some help

There are other threads already on this topic, but from what I recall of them:

No pre-amp outputs; only speaker-level. The Alpine and SRT8 systems have a separate multichannel amp in addition (with sub x-over). I don't know about the more basic systems.

FYI, MB Quart (and others) do make 6x9 component speaker systems.

Audio-Control makes a multi-channel LOC that is receiving good reviews on this forum. Each channel of your stock radio goes into a dedicated channel of the LOC. The LOC provides pre-amp outputs and a sub-woofer output (plus amp turn-on signal). I used to sell and install Audio Control products. Very well designed/built and excellent sound quality.

Re: Need some help

Yes, after I posted I started doing some speicific searches of the forums and found alot of info. I have never used Audio-Control products but saw that many people were utilizing their LC6i. I did find this http://www.pac-audio.com/productDeta...&CategoryID=28 but am not sure if it will plug and play in my specific unit and still give me all the functions I have now.

Re: Need some help

I have used the PAC chy23 in my 2011 jgc and it is is good for aftermarket sub and amp. If you do amplified aftermarket speakers u have lots of interference. Ex. U can hear abs and tc throuh your speakers as noise when it kicks in. Also when u turn off your engine u get a high pitched static out of the speakers, it's only for a second but it gets really annoying.

Re: Need some help

Dam, y'all are fast at replying. After looking into the installation instructions for the chy23 it says it is only to be used if you have the factory amp. Being that I have the low end system I am supposed to use the AOEM-CHR3 (http://www.pac-audio.com/productDeta...&CategoryID=28) and it doesn't have my year in the application chart.

Will all units give you interference? Is it like the hum sometimes from an amp if you don't have anything playing?

Re: Need some help

Now I found http://www.pac-audio.com/productDeta...&CategoryID=26 which has listed "Radio Replacement Interface With Built In Pre-Programmed Steering Wheel Control Retention and Navigation Outputs ******Does not retain uConnect ******" so looks like my only real option is to go with a line converter (like the ones from Audio-Control) so I don't loose any function. I just have to cut the stock harness to install this. I was hopeful to not have to do so, but such is life. Now I need to locate a wiring diagram for the radio harness to know which are the speaker channels.

Re: Need some help

That's really really odd, because my 2012 Laredo X with 430N RHB system has 9 speakers & subwoofer on passenger side rear (which as far as I am aware is the only way you can order the 430N RHB).

Here is the 2012 audio wiring diagram for the GC:

http://wk2jeeps.com/audio/2012_WK_audio_wiring.pdf

Here are the locations of all the speakers and media components and how to remove them:

Here is the 430N RHB manual:

Here the info from the window sticker showing what is included when you order a GC with the 430N RHB:

Re: Need some help

I think I have the Laredo E package if Im not mistaken. Dealer said what I have is between laredo and the laredo x. I know I only have 6 speakers and I know my radio has nav, uconnect, 40g hdd, and RHB on the front.

Yes there are external amps. No they aren't compatible with aftermarket equipment.

If you run tweets seperately you dont' change the load enough to affect the amp but you do need to filter out the lows so they only get tweet. You might want to consider using 6.5 components instead. You can fill the 6x9 hole with a plug and cut a 6.5 hole in it. Round speakers make cleaner sound than oval. Less bass but you won't need it if you are going to upgrade the sub.

If you kept your equipment, then plug it in. if you didn't get speakers you like, a nice JLAudio amp, and maybe a JL audio stealthbox, and audiocontrol LC6, and enjoy.
