Lightbulb New 2016 Summit user has questions...

Hi! I am new to this forum. I recently bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit 2016, and as a computer geek I am trying to learn everything.. I have some questions..

1) In the DID, what is the 'Favorites' menu for? I have selected a few menu items as Favorites, but what does that do? The manual doesn't say.
(sometimes, actually quite often, the manual sucks.)

2) In the Uconnect Settings/Display, what is Auto and Manual do?
(Again, all the manual says is there are two options, Auto and Manual. But it says nothing about what they do!)

3) I kept my last vehicle (2000 Toy 4Runner) for 16 years. Back then, it was crazy to use the Starter all the time like this new Start/Stop feature uses it.

Won't this wear the Starter out if it is starting the vehicle so much?? And is there a way to permenatly turn off this Start/Stop. I can press the A button everytime I start the car, but it seems that should also be in settings as a default.

4) This is probably dumb, but what does WK2 mean?

Thanks!

Re: New 2016 Summit user has questions...

1. Favorites allows you to make some menu items not show up on the left of the screen when you scroll up/down with the arrow buttons. But it's a completely useless feature, because every time you restart the car, they are back again and you can't get into screen setup while you're moving. (I like to disable the fuel economy, terrain, and driver assist menus so I can switch back and forth between tire pressure and trip, without having to scroll through 3 other menus). P 346 in the owners manual shows which ones can be hidden.

2. If you're referring to the 'Display mode' under settings, (p. 372) that's the brightness control for auto-dimming when lights are on. If you're referring to something else, please be more specific or refer to the page number that your looking at.

3. The start/stop system was engineered to start the engine much more often then a normal car....the starter that is used was designed for that purpose, it will not wear out. No, there is no way to permanently turn off that feature. You have to disable it every time you start the car (there are already several threads complaining about that).

4. WK2 is just a generational designation....the new 2019 will be a WL, 2011-2018 is a WK2, 2005-2010 is a WK, 1999-2004 is a WJ, and the first gen 1993-1998 is a ZJ.

FYI, the page numbers I listed are from the Owners Manual. That, and the smaller Users Guide are available for download at Jeep.com (much easier to search, and you don't have to run out and grab the paper one out of the car, every time you want to look something up)

Hope this answers your questions, and welcome to the Garage.

"Technically", "WK" is the official designation from MY05 to MY18. "WK2" is an invented, non-official designation for MY11-MY18. Jeep changed the JGC platform to a Daimler co-developed setup for MY11 (same as the ML350 at that point) but didn't create a new internal code for some reason. So "the Internet" and others with concern decided to refer to the MY11-MY18 platform as "WK2" to differentiate it discussion wise.

Re: New 2016 Summit user has questions...

Although I knew that 2011 was more of a major mid-cycle refresh and not a whole new generation, I wasn't aware that WK2 wasn't an official designation. It does make sense, though, since all the official Jeep codes are just 2 letters, with no numbers. Thanks for the clarification.

Yea, for some reason they "forgot" to change the designation between platforms...Daimler efficiency maybe?

Re: New 2016 Summit user has questions...

Thanks a lot DriverDave!

Yes, in #2 I was talking about Display Mode. You have answered all of my questions. I did have the full manual mailed to me, but some of it's descriptions weren't clear. It seems they sometimes spend more time explaining that pressing a button turns something on, and pressing it again turns it off.. than explaining what the features actually does. But I have most of the features figured out so far.

I probably couldn't figure out the DID Favorites menu because I didn't notice it had removed any menu items. And since I was usually testing it when I had gotten home, it reset when I turned off the car..

Thanks again!

So, unofficially, the post mid-cycle refresh WK2's are WK2.5's.

Very unofficially! Some folks felt because there were a few options that were late availability they would redesignate their vehicles. It was pretty comical.
