I won't buy another vehicle where I can't press buttons on my head unit while driving, that's simply ridiculous.

I just don't get why they won't simply put a disclaimer there, we or a passenger acknowledges, while most likely playing with other buttons on our iPhones, no?

That reduction of functions is insane, I tried once to enter a Nav address with my accent, never again :-)

Re: new lockpick for the 8,4 uconnect, 99% software

Hi Magnus,
I was wondering if it would be possible to add in the Uconnect functionality ( ie. Pandora etc) for Non NA users by using a mobile hotspot as we don't have the Sprint modem card built into our units. Also real time traffic updates for the GPS nav via services such as SUNA would be great. maybe a web browser

+1 here too use a Wireless USB Dongle as a access point so we can then Chromecast, Spotify, etc tether to our phones, Of course Magnus will need to develop the apps.

I would be more than happy to pay for a base such which I already have and then pay for add on apps, the Andriod App TORQUE would be awesome as a built in, but then again so would alot of other apps.

I am pretty sure the apps use the phone for the data connection not the cars hotspot.

'cause the feds have threatened them.

Quote:
U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today released distraction guidelines that encourage automobile manufacturers to limit the distraction risk connected to electronic devices built into their vehicles, such as communications, entertainment and navigation devices.

...

The guidelines include recommendations to limit the time a driver must take his eyes off the road to perform any task to two seconds at a time and twelve seconds total. The guidelines also recommend disabling several operations unless the vehicle is stopped and in park, such as:

Manual text entry for the purposes of text messaging and internet browsing;
Video-based entertainment and communications like video phoning or video conferencing;
Display of certain types of text, including text messages, web pages, social media content.

...
U.S. DOT Releases Guidelines to Minimize In-Vehicle Distractions | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

guess what happens if you dont follow the guidelines "good enough" ? They make it a regulation which you MUST follow. or worse yet the trial lawyers attach them after the first accident where someone tries to type in a nav address for 'not following these common sense guidelines suggested by our own government"

I dont have a link but i beleive the feds have also threatened google, apple, et al that all SMARTPHONE APPS for car use (e.g. NAV) should comply- thats likely why you can speak destinations to google or apple products. I assume microsoft phones do the same.

the future is probably voice recognition - something like the way google does it probably where it sends YOUR voice clip to their cloud and it learns what YOU mean to say with your particular accent. BTW- it's POSSIBLE that maybe uconnect does the same (perhaps why they charge for dictating voice texts so they can send your voice over cellular to yelp/bing/whatever to 'translate')- IF that's the case you might want to keep trying to talk to it- it MIGHT just learn over time.

Re: new lockpick for the 8,4 uconnect, 99% software

Does anyone know whether we can just update the maps (when and if they release an update later this month) with the RAX installed or would we have to do a rollback to do that?

Re: new lockpick for the 8,4 uconnect, 99% software

Hey was wondering if someone can help me out.. I'm from ny/nj and im interested in ordering this lock pick for my jeep.. It's a 2015 summit with the blu Ray package. What I would like is to be able to utilize the front camera and maybe use another input for a media box if I decide I would like to add that in the future.. I don't think a cargo cam will be needed in my future.. My question is what package do I get? Does the silver come only with one input? Or do I need to purchase the gold to gain the extra input? I know the gold comes with the extra input and camera but I really don't think I'll need the camera.. Also if you have the rear entertainment will the media play in the rear lets says I decide to purchase a media box and utilize the input of the the second cam would be on? Can they program it to do so I guess is what I'm asking or is there a way to do it? So Do really need to use that second input or is there another way to connect a media box? Thanks in advance any and all help is appreciated

What you need is the silver one's it comes with 2 inputs and you can add the second one just when you want, the first one is the front cam, you can install it when you want too.

I have a summit too and here you can see what I did with my silver package
