Thanks luster.
Just to be clear - it will "fail", as opposed to putting the radio into an unrecoverable state?

Is there a current discount for forum members and if so how much is?

correct.

you can read back thorough the thread- but if i recall it gives an error that the official version is not properly signed.

Who knows what they do at that point.

If they walk away then life is good.

Worse- If they pursue it and find someone with a brain to look into it they could conceivably figure out you put 'unauthorized software' on their system at which point they decide any and all electrical problems that ever happen to your vehicle now or in the future are the software's fault.

Far fetched doomsday scenario is they pursue it and find out that magnus exists and then someone who is in charge of security at corporate finds out and decides it's not good and then they "fix" the exploit that he is using to get his software on their system. Then we're all out of luck next time there is a software update when they patch the system. It could be that the cat is forever out of the bag for this version of hardware (I suspect so since we probably all could roll back to a previous official version that is properly signed yet still has the flaw that allows magnus in. Then we would just update to the magnus version from the old official version). But even then maybe they might decide out it's important to lock down all future hardware and we ruin future fun.

As an example of fun being ruined- I had 2007 Chrysler Nav Radio where there was a DVD in the trunk. It used to be that you could copy the dvd to your computer, use a hexeditor to flip a few bits and then write the edited files to a fresh dvd and presto chango the speed lockout was gone. After a few years of this someone at chrysler/radio company/map company figured it out and they locked down the dvd's (I seem to recall a signature check being implemented- but uncertain what they did exactly). That was the end of the fun. You could either upgrade your maps with a new DVD -OR- enjoy removing the speed lockout but not both. I'm pretty sure I'm still on the 2009 maps- lol.

so whatever we can do collectively to keep "the man" from getting involved the better. ;-)

no we all paid much less- if you read through the thread you can find the special price. No one has said it's changed.

If you sign up on their website for an account (per the instructions in the post to get the discount pricing) and you get approved the pricing will change to US dollars at the price listed in this thread ($250 I seem to recall- but just look back). While the actual product will get set to US dollars the shipping is quoted in their native currency and so is subject to fluctuations in exchange rates.

spend some time scanning this thread- not sure search will totally nail it- it will be worth your time to find the instructions to the special pricing.

Yup i agree with protecting the golden egg. But if thats the case then maybe the roll back should be standard as im sure many will go in to dealer for service. And if each time you got to get the roll back that is a bit of a hassel. Just saying.

Stupid dealers why must you check radio software.
any who..

Oh ok, yeah i briefly remember reading that some 20 or so pgs ago. Will check i dont remember a link but will check again.

Also woth regards to the maps and being updated. If i choose not to i dont have to update the maps if i dont want to right? I mean now a days we have nav access on our phones which we can simply update via android market or apple stores. Unless any future uconnect updates are for other features i dont think i would want to update the system simply for updated maps(from uconnect i mean).

If you are looking for the discounted prices look back in my posts, I listed the prices and the way to get the discounts.

I would repost but i am from my phone at present so I am limited.

As to rolling back the version to factory version when you take it in for service. .. my suggestion is anytime you take the car in for service disable the noticable items (front cam, cargo cam so forth) for this is very simple to do without the full rollback.

If you have noticed that magnus does not change the version # so this does not draw attn if they check the version in the radio head .

If there is major issues with the system then I would suggest a full rollback, for my dealer did tell me that it would have the possiblity to void your warranty, so no reason to risk this, in my opinion.

The map updates from what i understand will also be an option to do not a required update.

Does anyone know which cable powers the radio? Is it the big 60+ pin cable? I'm not sure if it's just loose but my stereo keep shutting off while I'm driving, sometimes it comes back on, sometimes it doesn't. I just want to make sure everything is connected properly

Just out of curiosity, with any of the screen mirroring devices once you have the rax and adapter connected are you able to control what is being mirrored from the 8.4 display if that makes sense?

That is currently not possible. Hopefully on the future a product like that will be available.
