Angry New Member annoyed with Uconnect

New 2015 Grand Cherokee Limited using the trial subscription of Uconnect. First Problem, loaded the Uconnect on my phone and have 5 Icons on Uconnect app. Door Locks, unlock/lock - Remote Start, start/stop and Horn & Lights. Well I thought Horn & Lights would be a good test, this would be nice if I've lost my car in a parking lot, etc. Well it's not Horn & Lights, it's the panic button and it does not toggle. Had to get the keys to stop it. It should be labeled "Panic button"
Tried the remote start next, took over 5 minutes for the phone to process it and the phone said it failed but the car actually started. Contacted support and they said unload app, turn off phone 3 mins and reload app. Checked for updates to Uconnect and found 10 modules so I updated. Now the remote start doesn't work at all.
The only part of uconnect that seems worthwhile is the remote start, I live in the dessert and it would be nice to cool down the car before I get in during the summer heat. Would appreciate comments, trying to decide to pursue working with uconnect or forget it all together.

Garage
Forget it and don't renew
The provided features are totally lame.
Park closer and remote start from the actual remote.
Mine was doing the same thing...half of the time it didn't work and when it did work it took something similar like 5-6 min.

For the price... no way. last time i checked here (US) it was $20/month.. lol no way. Its a joke for $20.. they "services" they provide are useless! Hit the assist button, ask them what they can do? "We can tell you how to do something on the uconnect, or make an appointment at the dealer" They cant even remote diagnose like OnStar can. It should be FREE for the life of the car since they dont actually do anything for you.
As far as the remote start, sometimes its faster.. it has to send a signal out to the cell system, then find your car.

Re: New Member annoyed with Uconnect

Save the $20 and use your key fob. My cube is next to the window and my car is parked 50 yards away. The range in the remote is good enough to remote start from that distance.

For that matter, if remote start via smart phone is important, use that $20 a month for several months and you'll have paid for an after-market system that will do it without a monthly fee.

Re: New Member annoyed with Uconnect

What ticks me off is they limit some of the features that should come stock. Like TXT MSG reading/writing and music apps from your mobile phone (Pandora, iHeart, etc..) Just lame. UConnect is pretty worthless and i'm not happy with the features that come stock in the cars system.

Re: New Member annoyed with Uconnect

I've had my Jeep for 3 weeks. Played around with Uconnect the 1st week.....haven't touched it since then. For me it's just a gimmick fail.

Re: New Member annoyed with Uconnect

The only time I use it is if I'm in a store or theater on a crappy day and want to warm up the interior for the wife(she's always cold). Other than that it might be useful if I ever lock the keys in the car. I'm really amazed at the range of the key fob, it seems to work for at least a couple hundred yards. My wife is jealous because her wrangler's auto start has a range of a couple hundred feet.

Re: New Member annoyed with Uconnect

in another of the uconnect threads someone posted what actually happens with the remote start commands.

First it has to sms your vehicle- so if you have no Sprint coverage your are SOL. Even if your area is blanketed with sprint coverage the software in the Uconnect 8.4 is crap. The system has no sleep mode or hibernate or any kind of intelligent battery saver. Rather the whole thing has to be woken up in order to sent the command to start/lock/panic/whatever.

basically from the time the SMS shows up it's 90 seconds (If i am remembering the number correctly)- for the system to boot entirely and then pass off the start command.

If you are bored at night you can stand outside the vehicle and use the smartphone app then count down and watch the uconnect radio wake up (some of the backlight stuff will come up if i recall).

Apparently the "app" to start is one of the "apps" like travelink, yelp, etc. So way down the boot order. (If i am remembering first you start the car, it boots, gives you the accept screen with comfort controls, then boots radio, then gives you presets, then loads nav, then loads blutooth, then loads text message and phonebook support for your phone, then loads the "apps"). Someone reported from CES that they supposedly realize it's stupid and plan to at least move the remote start app up in the boot order. I doubt it makes much difference- certainly not enough to give the "panic" button any value. They need to figure out a real "sleep" mode that isn't so passed out drunk asleep.

Once you understand the pattern and time it you can adjust how you use the system to start and cool down. But annoying that we have to adjust to accommodate their incompetence.

Re: New Member annoyed with Uconnect

I can't see ever using the panic button. I'll already be dead by the time it goes off. It'll just annoy people while I lie in a pool of my own blood. The yelp app is useless as well.

very well said. nice (or not so nice...) visual.

Yelp is pathetic. I dont know if it's Bing powered or what. There's a UPS store in my town. I can search for "ups store" and it will show me a few 15 miles farther away but not the one in my town. Then it will list some drug stores, maybe the post office, but not the stinking UPS store. Just one of a many examples.

Just dump Yelp and use google already.

I wish you could do a Google search from your phone for an address or location and then transfer it to the Uconnect to use the navigation. Finding a business on the navigation is not very efficient and most times doesn't bring up a hit anyway. I like the turn by turn navigation once a destination is entered though.
