Search for posts by Sox.
He has a web site where you can download the ISO images.

Everything I've read indicates you are safer burning the ISO image to a CDROM and updating that way.

I have successfully updated from v23 to v33, then to v50, then back to v33, updated maps and then back up to v50.
And then.....
Backdated to v33, updated maps yet again, and then back to v50.

All with CDROMs (USB drive for the map files) and absolutely no issues. (Except for freezing my ass off during one of the updates. Got smart and ran a space heater sitting on the passenger seat during the last round to keep warm and not have to run the engine for 1.5 hours. The map updates take a while.)

Thank you. You went back and forth a lot! I have v33. Is 33 better than 50?

It should. I believe Chrysler had all the same radios. Not positive but pretty confident.

Re: New Software Update MyGIG RBZ-RB2-RHB / 33.01.23

I was finally getting around to updating my 2011 rbz (non nav) radio and I started reading about it on some other forums. There are some people that say the radios with software versions older than 23.xx cannot be updated. My radio currently has 08.xx software. Has anyone updated a really old software version like mine to 33.xx or 50.xx? What do you guys think?

Re: New Software Update MyGIG RBZ-RB2-RHB / 33.01.23

Hello All,

I am trying to get together enough individuals to file a Class Action Lawsuit against Garmin Intl. regarding the issue of their units having the "Recalculating and freezing" problem. I have a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 430N Nav System in it that has been experiencing this issue. After calling Garmin numerous times, and being told that they have no idea of the problem, I was told to take the vehicle to my dealer where the unit would have to be replaced. This is a very expensive procedure! I began researching the issue and have found that this particular problem has been ongoing since back in 2011 and is not limited to the in-dash systems only.

So, since Garmin will not step up and help the consumers by addressing and fixing the problem, I am looking to go the route of litigation to help all those who have had the same issue. I am in the beginning stages so if you are interested please let me know by PM'ing me your name ONLY! Once I have enough people on board I will take this to my attorney and at that time you will be asked for your full contact info by him.

Remember, I need ONLY your name. I am not collecting any personal or identifying information myself The attorney will handle all of that. Thank you for your time.

Depends on your preference...
The v50 software has a dark theme that I like better.
But you can't update maps if you are on v50.
That's why I've gone up/down a few times.
I'm still on v50 now.
Having Bluetooth issues, but it appears to be Android's fault not the radio. I cannot initiate calls via voice command, it starts to connect and then kills the call. I can initiate the call on the phone and then the radio takes over the call and it works fine.

So, if you can, avoid Android 4.3 and/or 4.4.

Sox has ISO image downloads on his site.
You have to open your CD burning software and choose "Burn Image". Do not burn it as a 'data CD' as that will not work.

The various posts I've read through indicate you are safer using CDROM than USB. Blank CDs are cheap, cheaper/easier than wasting your time at the dealer because they have to replace a 'bricked' radio under warranty and MUCH cheaper than replacing the radio out of pocket because you are out of warranty.

You can update the Garmin maps via USB drive safely, but use a quality flash drive, not some cheap POS.

I could be wrong...
But I think your radio is too old.
I seem to recall people updating from v10 to v23, and then to v33 and up to v50; but I seem to recall that the v8 radios are too old. Find Sox and send him a PM, I believe he can advise you further.

My 2012 was v23 when I bought it, I have updated to v33 and am now on v50 without ever setting foot in the dealership.
