No DVD player option in the 2014 Grand Cherokee?

I am debating between the 2013 and 2014 Grand Cherokee. At the moment, Iím leaning toward the Overland. I love the way the new 8.4 Uconnect system
and the new dash configuration looks compared to the 2013, but I noticed there was no option for a DVD player up front.

Does anyone know if it will be possible to add a DVD player option or lockpick/nav-tv type device that would enable video to be played on the front screen?

It seems like a waste to have such a nice high def screen that canít even be used to play video, even if it is only when youíre in park.

I am currently driving a 2012 Ford F-150 Raptor. It has the DVD player upfront and on long trips it has really been a nice feature to have.
Honestly, I would prefer to keep the Raptor, but I drive 70 miles round trip to work every day and 12 miles per gallon isnít working for me anymore.

Thats kinda weird. I don't think I would ever even use my dvd player in my 2013, and I would not let it be the deciding factor in your decision. 2014 is comming with the 8 speed trans and alot of posistive exterior changes. Are u looking a the 3.6 pentastar?

I agree. I wouldnít let it be a deciding factor, but I would like to know if it will ever be possible. I have only used that feature a few times, but I really appreciate that itís there for the times I have used it.

I think its weird Jeep didnít even put a CD player in it. At least thereís an option for that.

Yes, Iím looking for the V6. Need the best gas mileage possible, but I donít think the Diesel is worth it for the money.

It is Illegal to have DVD's playing in the front while driving in the USA i believe.

But More than likely there will be a lockpick for the Uconnect System.

So get the Diesel and enjoy nearly 30mpg

Re: No DVD player option in the 2014 Grand Cherokee?

I emailed lockpick about the RA3/RA4 2014 model and here is what they said...

Thank you so much for your inquiry. Unfortunately at this time your 2014 Grand Cherokee is not on the approved list of vehicles that work with the LockPick product. However, we are always adding new makes and models to the lineup. I would recommend checking back with us within a couple of months to ensure compatibility with your particular vehicle. Thanks again and I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Sounds like they may come up with something

Re: No DVD player option in the 2014 Grand Cherokee?

The electrical architecture of the MY14 is completely different from previous model years, so the "lockpick" folks have a lot of re-engineering to do to support things. There is always a delay for this support when the auto manufacturer changes things since any development work needs to wait until actual vehicles become available. Small companies don't tend to go out and buy these cars, so they also need to find someone willing to "lend" one for the work.

Disc players in the dash are going the way of the dodo bird, being replaced with other forms of media. The MY14 is slated to get a rear DVD player solution with delayed availability.

Is there anything in the works for digital playback from SD cards since they pulled the DVD?

NAV TV makes a way to plug a portable cd or DVD and also bypass the lock out while driving navtv.com

Re: No DVD player option in the 2014 Grand Cherokee?

PC technician mate here in OZ reckons the CD player is likely able to play DVD's as it has been the practice to make the lens multi purpose ie: read CD's and DVD's for several years now.

He believes they no longer make a CD unit anymore....anyone know?

Looking at the CD player in the MY14 being able to play a DVD. Not talking about playing movies on the move but can it be possible that the unit plays both media.

Possibly in the future with a firmware upgrade, but currently it doesn't, It wont even read a dvd with mp3's on it.
