Like the title says. About a month and a half ago I was ready to pull the trigger on a 2016 Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited but I changed my mind after the dealer offered me a low figure for my GC.
So I decided to do a few upgrades (I've commented on different threads on here) see signature.
Ever since I bought my WK2 GC Laredo E with 6 speakers system I knew it was a matter of time until I would upgrade it. It took me almost four years until I finally pulled the trigger. I know how to do audio installs but I really didn't want to mess with it or had time to do it.
The first thing I did was I added an Alpine KTP-445u power pack amplifier to the stock 430n radio to power the stock speakers. The amp fits neatly under the headunit over the air conditioner control. The sound was louder and cleaner but there was always a lot of noise interference when playing music over BT or USB. The noise was also present before the amp the dealer couldn't figure it out and said it was normal. Sure.
I also added a sealed dual sub enclosure with .5 cubic feet of volume for each chamber with Pioneer 8" shallow subwoofers. I powered the subs with a Rockford Punch class D booted rail amp. The amp lasted about a year before it started making a heartbeat sound. Bass was good.
Next I installed Pioneer speakers:
TS-A 1306C- 5 1/4'' Components in the front with plate adapter
TS-G1645R in the rear door
The speaker install was pretty simple. I also used foam baffles to help with vibrations and to kill of bass in the front doors as they tend to rattle too much (didn't cut a hole in the baffle). The rear speakers I used baffles but I cut a hole to help with bass (door does not rattle like the front).
I immediately noticed a difference in sound better but not clear enough.
Finally last week I installed a Pioneer Appradio 4 and a kicker CX-300.1 amp for the subs.
I also installed a PAC RP4-CH11 interface to retain the steering wheel controls. Plug and play.
The radio was easy to install but it takes time. You have to trim the opening and the brackets/trim adapters from Crutchfield work but are not perfect.
After the Appradio my system came to life. After setting the Eq, the sound is phenomenal. Vocals are crystal clear. Music is impacting and the bass is pretty sweet. I am really happy with the system.
I also love the Apple Carplay functionality.
