Pioneer Avic-5000NEX - does it need ODBII.

I am using an idatalink to interface a pioneer avic-5000nex with oem harness and controls in a 2012 GC.

The idatalink shows connections to the high and low can pins on the ODBII, but the Pioneer is not capable of displaying gauge or error code readings for the Jeep.

Because the AVIC can't show that info, do I still need to tap into the ODBII? I am thinking no, but wanted to check first...

Greetings,

The 5000 as you said is not capable is correct. Right now the Kenwood models that support the iDatalink is your best bet if your are able to return the 5000.

Best for now.

I want car play over car info, so the pioneer is fine.

I did the install today and did not tap into ODBII and everything works as it should.

Greetings,

Enjoy the system, you are good to go.

I am still holding back on CarPlay until the 3rd party navi apps come out.

Best for now.

Crutchfield has a 60 day return policy, so there is a good change I may swap the 5000NEX For the 5100NEX... mostly just to have upgraded hardware and a little better screen. But we will see...

Greetings,

The 2 Kenwood models are due in a month or so, which should still be in your return period.

Best for now.

I am intrigued by the Kenwood models, but I haven't seen pricing and am expecting them to be priced higher than the 5000NEX
