Pioneer install - gap between trim

I just installed a Pioneer AVIC-5000NEX into my 2012 GC over the weekend and there is a gap between the bottom of the radio and the interior trim. Sort of looks like the radio just doesn't protrude out enough.

I was thinking about picking up some washers to act as spacers between the mounting screws and the radio, but not sure if that will work.

Has anyone else seen issues like this?

Greetings,

Which kit did you get? This is what my Pioneer AppRadio 3 looks like:

Best for now.

I got the kit from Crutchfield and it looks similar to your install, except my button bar is on the left. If you removed your bottom button bar, there would be a gap between the trim and the screen - that's how mine is.

Re: Pioneer install - gap between trim

Just an update:

I stopped at the hardware store today and picked up some nylon washers to use as spacers between the conversion kit and the dash.

While it still isn't perfect, it's much better.

Instead of cobbling together a fix, you should have Crutchfield send you the proper installation kit that fits flush in your dash.

Re: Pioneer install - gap between trim

I just double checked part numbers and I've got the correct kit.

Just curious...do you guys use the stock amp and speakers in your 2012? Wondering why you changed out the head unit. Can you use the steering wheel controls and voice commands?

Re: Pioneer install - gap between trim

Everything is still stock in mine, I only swapped the head unit.

I swapped the head unit because my GC had the base stereo and I wanted NAV, bluetooth, and Apple Car Play.

I bought everything from Crutchfield ( they have a 60 day return policy and great tech support ): head unit, wire adapter module to interface with OEM, Sirius tuner, and conversion kit.

Everything works exactly as it did before ( ie., steering wheel controls ) and I have noticed a HUGE difference in the Sirius stations. The stock radio played them highly compressed and they sounded terrible. The Pioneer I bought plays them and they sound great.
