Re: Playing music through center console USB port

Drove to Chicago and back, and couldn't get the iPod connection through USB working at all. I need to figure out how I got it working before... seemed to just randomly work. Very, very annoying.

Re: Playing music through center console USB port

I plugged my Ipod using the USB in the center console and had no problems. Didn't play with it much, but it did work the first time.

My Nano 2g works fine every time but my iPhone 3GS works sporadically, most of the time it doesn't work.

Withe the Bluetooth streaming, it seems you can just fast forward, rewind, play, and pause. It just plays the song your iPod is currently on. The sound quality is ok, not great.

What OS do you have on your 3GS? 4.0 or later?

It seems the USB port doesn't like iOS devices with OS 4.0 or later, or the latest iPod nano.

I've been meaning to borrow an older generation nano to see if it works better, then may have to do a swap.

I have the latest iOS version on it. I actually have better luck with Bluetooth streaming than the wired connection....though it sometimes speeds the songs up.

I just ordered a Laredo X with the 430N. My build date is 10/11/2010. My dealer could not answer the following questions:

1) Will the 430N support iPod control?
2) Will the 430N have the USB port on the face of the radio or underneath the center stack in the "storage bin" just in front of the shifter
3) If the 430N does not have the USB port underneath the center stack, will the iPod control still work on the face of the radio
4) Does the Garmin Nav have any real time traffic capability.

He did confirm they now can build Laredo X packages with the dual panoramic sunroof; unfortunately my order is too far down the path to change.

1) Yes, with a USB to iPod cable on the armrest USB connection. In theory- apparently compatibility isn't 100%.
2) Both on the face of the radio and in the armrest (not in the bin at the bottom of the center stack, where the iPod cable is on the 730N). The faceplate connection can be used to load media onto the hard drive. The armrest connection is intended for iPods and playing directly off the thumb drive.
3) See #2.
4) No, no traffic on the 430N.

The user guide (not the owner's manual, but the user guide) has a good amount of info on the exact differences and how they play out.

For both the user guide and owner's manual, go here and select "2011" and "Grand Cherokee."

Re: Playing music through center console USB port

Try plugging the ipod BEFORE selecting the AUXorIPOD tab. Let it read the list prior to selecting and see if that makes a difference.

Re: Playing music through center console USB port

Great posts / replies everyone, thank you. This is great news as it was not what my dealer had told me on the iPod control.

As for the traffic, that is disappointing. Will this be fixed with a firmware / software upgrade? It would seem this should be a plug and play service through Sirius / XM or something?
