Re: Playing music through center console USB port

You don't need any update to play music thru the 430N with a USB drive. Just copy your music to the USB drive and plug the drive into the center console plug. The 430N will find them just fine. Music files need to be in the correct format however. MP3 play fine I have not tried any other formats, but I think there is a list somewhere in the manual maybe.

Re: Playing music through center console USB port

Can someone confirm if there is an update to the 430N RHB (for a vehicle delivered last week) that will correct the iPhone 4 issue of sporadically connecting, if at all.

When I go to the mygig site referenced I only see RER updates. Further, why would a vehicle just released require a software update?

Confirming 2 iphone 4's work fine on the 730n via the ipod control cable... sporadic issues? maybe a case slightly blocking the data cable connection. I've seen that happen in other cars.

Re: Playing music through center console USB port

I've never been able to successfully connect my iPhone 4 to the center console USB port and play music on the 430N. I've tried the latest iPod Nano too, but that has only worked 3 times (out of about 50 tries). The system just doesn't seem to like the latest Apple products.

I did rip music to the hard drive instead. The down side with that is that you can't voice command the music on the hard drive. When the USB port DOES work, you can control it similarly to SYNC ("play song X." "play artist X.")

Hopefully the Travel Link update in January will also have a firmware update. The updates on that web site are not for the 430N.

I have heard that older iPods/iPhones will work, as long as you don't have iOS 4 or later.

Re: Playing music through center console USB port

I got my iPod to work on the arm rest USB port. It took awhile to read the iPod, but once it was done it worked great. Not the best interface, but it will suffice I suppose. Hopefully it won't take as long to read the iPod in the future. I got the iPhone Bluetooth streaming to work also. The system had to finish syncing my contacts prior to working correctly. I have over 3000 contacts in my phone, so it took a long time to sync...again, hope it goes faster in future. I never got the name of the artist or song to appear on the screen with Bluetooth...is it supposed to show? The Bluetooth streaming experience and phone controls seem clunky and like ancient technology. Maybe I was just spoiled by the Mercedes system which was extremely fluid. Hopefully future updates address this.

P.S. I have iPhone 4 with latest IOS 4 update

I have had more frequent success through soft resetting my iPhone 4 prior to connecting. How will Jeep know where to send updates? Do we need to register?

The power jack is in the lower part and the USB jack is in the upper part of the arm rest for the 430 and 430N radios.
