Re: Playing music through center console USB port

I have the same issue on a Cherokee I purchased last weekend. It would seem to be as easy as a software update (or firmware) but the service department at my local dealership had no idea what I was talking about much less knew of any updates. Its pretty frustrating... why put the damn USB port in there if you cant make it minimally functional?

Re: Playing music through center console USB port

It's functional... just not with the latest Apple products. If you use an iPod Touch or iPhone with an OS version before 4.0, things work perfectly. Same with an iPod Nano made before the newest form factor.

Apple must have changed something. Hopefully Chrysler is figuring out what that was, and is updating things to work properly.

It's definitely frustrating, but it's not like Jeep had access to pre-release Apple products to test (or that testing with the newest Apple products was likely very high on the priority list).

I ripped a couple thousand tracks to the hard drive for the time being. I can't voice control them, which is also frustrating, but at least I'm not as aggravated as I was before.

Re: Playing music through center console USB port

Good point, RMac. Who knows what sort of software changes were necessary on the Apple side for these newer products... I found a really old iPod mini in my closet last night and hooked it up without any issues. The bright side is now I actually have a use for that old iPod mini!

Thanks for the feedback!

Re: Playing music through center console USB port

This is crazy, mine is acting the same way - works once in a while then goes into the reading mode and ends with an error. Jeep told me that they are working on the problem with Apple.

Saw this at:

http://www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_tsb.htm

Additional service issues, tips and information
Apple iPad not compatible with UConnect
The Apple iPad is not compatible with Uconnect when connected to the vehicle’s USB port or ipod control cable located in the glove box or center console. The iPad will display the following message: “This device is not supported by the iPad”. UConnect system may display “Reading” and / or “Error” on the radio display.
Bluetooth Streaming Audio from iPad plays with no issue. However, seek up and seek down buttons on the radio are not supported by the iPad. Seek up and seek down operation can be exercised using the iPad itself.
Apple IPhone4 - Audio issues playing audio files
Customers may complain that while playing audio files from apple iPhone4, the sound will drop out or fail to play. Chrysler and Apple Inc. are jointly investigating this issue. Timing for a resolution from Apple and Chrysler is TBD.
The following solution should be suggested to customers in the interim:
Step 1: Turn the vehicle off
Step 2: Turn the iPhone4 off and on.
Step 3: Turn the vehicle on, and wait 30 seconds
Step 4: Connect the iPhone4 to vehicle's USB port (in glove box or center console) using the USB cable that came with the iPhone4 (generally the cable is White in color). Make sure that customers are using their device via USB port located in glove box or in the center console and not via the USB port on the radio faceplate.
Step 5: Press "Media" button on the radio and use the system in iPod (USB) mode (and not in Bluetooth Streaming mode)
Also, advise customers to minimize use of seek up and seek down keys; and when they are used, try not to press them multiple consecutive times.

Re: Playing music through center console USB port

I just purchased 2011 GC Laredo X, I have a new ipod touch. I plugged in the ipod with usb cord to both usb ports, and no music is being played let alone anything on the nav screen that shows its reading. Actually one time it said it was reading device and then after 2 mins it said error occurred. is there any way to play music from my ipod to the stereo without using a aux cord?

Try it in standby mode with the iPod screen off but power on.

Re: Playing music through center console USB port

Hi, I am having the same issue with an iPod touch 16gb, 2nd generation. I plug it in via the apple USB cable to the center console, and the ipod screen says "Accessory Connected"

The Jeep console appears to be searching for the device for about a minute or two, and then a large "Error Occurred" message pops up on the radio console screen.

I have also tried to connect via the usb in the dashboard with no luck. I have not tried connecting the ipod through the aux port & 3.5mm cable yet, that will be my last option.

Any suggestions on how to get the ipod to work through either USB port? Thanks in advance!

Chris

Same problem here...Laredo X with 430 system. Frustrating because the connection worked fine when we first picked up the Jeep back in March. Just checked and the iPod touch is running OS version 4.1.

Any info on when an update will be available?

Re: Playing music through center console USB port

I have a newer 730N.

Before I plug in the iPod touch I select the play list and start it playing before I connect the iPod to the USB port. Once that connection is made all seems to be fine. After starting the car, sometimes there is a little delay, sometimes not.

Works reliably unless I also have my Blue Tooth phone in the car, then the radio doesn't usually automatically start playing the iPod when I start the car. I have to go to the aux select device screen and select the iPod touch.

There have been times where the audio just stops (song keeps playing on the iPod but no audio). I either unplug and plug in the iPod again or go to the aux screen, select another device and then back to the iPod.

Dunno if the same tricks work on the 430. For how much money the charge for these radios, they are quirky. Its the same radio in several other chrysler cars, wonder if the issues are company wide?

Re: Playing music through center console USB port

Oh, I've also read on the apple support forum that OS version 4.2 works more reliably.

Thumbs down Re: Playing music through center console USB port

Just updated the iPod Touch to OS 4.3.3, still get an error when connecting...

Just e-mailed Chrysler to find out what is going on.

One thing I did notice is that on older iPods I see uConnect on the iPod when it connects. I don't see that on the iPod touch that does not.

IMO they should work on fixing this. I can plug in the iPod to the USB port on my 2009 Volvo S40 and it works completely fine, no software updates required.

Response from Chrysler...not happy...

Thank you for contacting the Jeep Customer Assistance Center regarding your 2011 Grand Cherokee.
The iPod touch (4.3.3) has not been tested with the latest update. At this moment there is no update to correct this problem. We suggest an alternative of the iPod touch 2nd & 3rd gen (4.0, 4.1, 3.1.2) Sorry that we are not able to provide you with a more favorable answer.

Thanks again for your email.
