Possible problem after upgrade on 430n

I was wondering if anyone was having a similar problem after the Sirius Travel Link update on the 430n:

Let's say you are listening to the radio and then press the media button and switch to aux so music is playing from an Ipod or USB drive. The music will play fine without any issue. Now you want to go back to the radio so you hit the radio button, the music stops, but no audio from the radio. The screen shows that something should be on (even lists the song on SAT) but no audio. Moving the VOL does nothing. Then even if you switch back to Media, the music will not play either. It's almost like the system is frozen. The only way to fix it to leave it on radio mode, turn off the Jeep, open the door so the ACC turns off then turn it back on.

Anyone else notice this? Thanks.

I don't use AUX so I wouldn't know if mine had this problem or not. i switch between AM, FM and SAT frequently and have had no problem.

So far mine is working correctly since the update. Perhaps you should run the update again, just to be sure it correctly loaded. Make sure to wait a long time after the first reboot and don't touch anything. Some have removed the CD because they thought the update was done when in fact it was preparing the Hard Drive to accept the new firmware.

When I did the update I did leave the disc in for a while to make sure it finished. I just disconnected and reconnected the battery. Will run a full test tomorrow.

Any further news about your experience? I have the CD burned but hesitating to install it yet.

Re: Possible problem after upgrade on 430n

computerwiz,
I may have experienced the same issue as your Original Post, but after more time with it I have an explanation, that might also apply to your case.

I installed the update with the engine running, then turned the engine off and played around with the radio with the ignition set to ACCESS. Over the course of half an hour or so, I had the same issue as your OP three times.

What I found is that when the ACCESSory power times out, the radio display and all its buttons (onscreen and steering wheel) can (at least when you are actively changing radio settings) continue to stay illuminated and active, except that the volume display bar goes to zero and sound is muted. I happened to be changing bands, channels or whatever by coincidence at the time when the power went off. Then you can even make the volume display bar grow using the buttons, but the sound remains muted. Its because the vehicle power is now OFF (for example the EVIC display is now off). If you press the start button to put the vehicle back into 'Accessory', the radio volumes comes back again and works normally.

So it seems that the radio continues to have some power for at least a bit longer than the rest of the vehicle when the ignition Auto Power-off occurs while the radio is actively being used (buttons being pressed, etc).

So is this a minor bug or a feature? I'm not yet sure. Not yet time for further experimenting. I hope the radio does fully power off after a further delay (to avoid battery drain, etc.). But I can also see that having the radio power stay connected just a bit longer could help the user do 'a few more tweaks' before the unit fully powers off and leaves things hanging in the middle of an adjustment of some sort.

Anyway, still glad I did the update. Maybe the radio always worked this way, but I had not noticed it before.

Re: Possible problem after upgrade on 430n

This does not match my experience with the 430N (RHB) in an Overland. When the vehicle times out and switches from "accessory" to "off," the radio continues to get full power for ten minutes or until you open the door. I spent an afternoon messing around with this (reading through the manual and trying all the features) and never experienced a situation in which the radio was alive but mute.

Re: Possible problem after upgrade on 430n

Hey everyone, just wanted to add, as strange as this sounds, I can avoid the problem every time by pausing the music before I switch back to radio. So far each time I had no issues when the music was paused and went back to radio. I still like the update, just something I'll have to do, no big deal.

Cherodude, have not had that experience. But also my problem happens when the engine is running so everything should have power.

OK. I have not had any issues with the engine running. Good luck.

Re: Possible problem after upgrade on 430n

I was hoping that enough time had gone by that an answer would have been identified. I experience the same problem as described in the original post (post 430n disc update). It seems others misunderstood the explanation. A better way to describe this is with a scenerio:

I pull into the airport "cell phone" lot, because my wife's flight is delayed 30 minutes from landing. I push the engine button, turning off the motor, as to not waste gas, and I continue to listen to the 430n, let's say in the satellite mode. My "after engine-off" timer is set to 10 minutes of power. I change stations within the satellite band with no problems. I change the band from satellite to FM, and the 430n stays lit, as if there is no problem, but the audio is muted. If I turn the volume up or down, the bars go up and down, but still no audio. If I switch back to satellite or to AM, etc., still no audio. It doesn't matter which band I start in when the engine is turned off. Changing band during the 10 minute power mode mutes the audio.

The dealership has reinstalled the disc 2 times, and has also replaced the 430n, with no success. They're waiting for another suggestion from Tech Support.

Are we the only 2 with this experience? Is there a fix I haven't heard about yet?
