I just updated the uconnect image within minutes of it becoming available for my VIN (an hour earlier it said no updates), and I seem to be having problems:
EDIT#2: The first issue (I'll put at the bottom of this msg now) seems to have worked itself out. However my second issue persists and is really unacceptable:
I leave an ipod plugged in w/ my full music collection. It seems after a few minutes the source is changing to iPod automatically. It happens every power on, so you can't just leave it on XM and always get in and have XM...
Anyway, you've been warned.
EDIT:
One other thing to note, don't be an idiot like me: I'm so used to Windows updates requiring a reboot mid-upgrade, and was only half paying attention. I saw one of the Update Units titled "XM Update" and noted it wasn't the last one to upgrade. I then saw the head unit restart and figured for some reason the XM component required a reboot to finish upgrading. I mean, I was kind of expecting an "Upgrade complete" message at some point. So I let it re-start the upgrade process. I got the "are you sure" screen, and should have just stopped when I saw it ask if I wanted to upgrade from/to the same version #, but didn't. So I sat through the entire upgrade process twice... Oops.
EDIT#2: Original problem (now gone):
The main one is w/ the Uconnect music apps. These appear to have become completely non-functional. There was already an unacceptably long wait while they loaded (One hope I had was that the update would make them load faster). I'm seeing the wait time doubled for them to become available, and after they do, selecting any of them results in the "[APP] Initializing..." screen w/ a 5 bullet progress meter below that. This is the screen that appears prior to the app specific splash screens. I get stuck here for 10 seconds or so, and then it boots back to the app list.
I tried a few times and once I briefly got the Jeep splash screen you see when the radio is first powered on, indicating some kind of soft reboot in the background, but it returned right to the app list. And another time I got an error screen that said something like "DRMv_sync is busy. Try again later" or something to that affect (def w/ drm in the name.) So something is failing during app loading.
Also w/ the uconnect apps screen, I selected "show all" rather than the favorite apps tab I was on, and after that was not able to re-select "favorites" or "running" apps. It just ignored button presses. All in all seems like a pretty shitty "upgrade".
I did this during my lunch break so don't have time to call cust svc at this point. I tried the manual soft reboot that the cust svc calls I've had for previous issues suggested by holding the mute & select buttons until the head unit resets, but that didn't fix anything.

A second thing I noticed other than the apps:
It's going to be quite annoying if it continues beyond just the first power on (which I never got past as I was doing a reset each time due to the above problems). I leave an ipod plugged in w/ my full music collection. It seems after a few minutes the source is changing to iPod automatically. If that happens every power on I'll be pretty pissed.
Anyway, you've been warned.

Not sure if you’ve been able to contact Uconnect yet, but if not and you’re still having issues with the update, please PM me and send your VIN so I can look into it further.
With this update, a random switch from Radio to Media occurs playing tunes in my iPhone's music library. This happens shortly after starting the GC. I press Radio and it stays put for the duration of the ride. Otherwise, no problems and Siri works fine.
2015 GC Overland did the Siri update and screwed up my radio and doesn't work and freezes up. Is there a way to return to the previous software? any links to uconnect software sites that have older versions?
After I had done the update, everything worked wonderfully and just as I had expected it to but I ran into a problem this week. I updated the day it was released or shortly thereafter.
I have an iPod that stays in the vehicle and is plugged into the USB port and while the system would play the music, it froze the rest of the controls on the head unit and even the manual radio controls on the console. If I unplugged the iPod and rebooted it, I saw improved performance, though still not what I'd call normal.
Yesterday, I re-installed the firmware update and all seems to be good again though I'm concerned about what might cause this to happen in the first place.
Update: Same problems today so my re-installation didn't correct the issue. Does anyone know if we are able to revert back to previous versions of firmware?

I started another thread on this and member *SOX* replied with his archive of all old firmware.
I reverted mine. This update was a train wreck. If all you do is stream from your iPhone (or no phone) it will work. If you do anything else, forget it.
I'm really concerned about uConnect's implementation of CarPlay now on a late MY17 I've been looking forward to.
I have called Uconnect and opened a case they told me they have not heard of any problems. WTF. does anyone know what was the previous version before this suck hole 16.16.13 ??
Not sure. I think so, but there were some differences between the 2014 and 2015. Don't install anything until you are sure it is the correct release for your vehicle. There should be a failsafe in the installation, but I'd personally rather not rely on those to work properly.
The last version I had installed prior to the Siri Hands Free update on my 2015 was 15.17.5. This version was the one included the coding to block the hackers from accessing the vehicle. I would call UConnect and ask them to provide you with the correct update based on your VIN or take it to a dealership and have them roll it back to the correct update.
If anyone is having issues with their system in a similar fashion as mine, and if they tell you that they are unsure about any other reports on this have them reference case # 29330099. I had a well documented call with a helpful technician. My issues are specifically with the radio freezing when an iPod is connected via the USB hub. I do owe them a call to inform them that after rolling back to 15.17.5 everything works as it should which pretty much confirms that the 16.16.3 release has some issues.

There is a new update to the software for GC MY2015 that just came out on 5/19/16. Maybe it will fix some of the issues from the one that came out earlier in May
It doesn't show a new one for me. 16.16.13 is still popping up. What is the new version number?
I spent an hour on the phone with support and they put me through a routine of turning off bluetooth on my phone. Putting the ignition in ACC mode and pressing the Green Phone and VR buttons simultaneously for 30 seconds and then doing the door open and shut routine twice.
Sounded promising but has not cured the problem of randomly switching to media mode from radio mode.
I think I am having the same problem, either way I am having an issue for sure.
I notice that I will be listening to radio or SAT radio if anything happens to my phone like I scroll through Instagram and a video loads it automatically switches to media or sometimes just randomly switches? Any luck with this its so frusturating.
A pattern has developed in my case. When I drive to work in the morning, the radio switches to media when I get a quarter of a mile away from my house. On the way home, it switches to media when I am 50 yards from my house. It makes no difference which direction I go or come from. It is always the same. It does not switch anywhere else.
I will be going out of town with my GC in a couple of weeks. I will report back if it happens without be near my house.
I was thinking the same thing. I will turn off my phone's wifi when I leave work. And do it again when I depart for work in the morning. I will report the results.
Update: With wifi off as I approached home, the random switch did not happen. I will do the same as I leave home tomorrow. I think this is the bug.
Now confirmed. With WiFi turned off on the phone, the random switch from radio to media does not happen. I turned on WiFi some miles past the spot where the random switch happens and all was good.
This suggests it might be more about it connecting/disconnecting from an itunes server in your home. The Jeep/iphone combo may see that as a media source being plugged/unplugged.
I should have mentioned that early this morning I had the WiFi off while driving to the gym. Before I turned the engine off, I turned on the phone's WiFi (the phone automatically joins the gym's WiFi) and the random switch to Media occurred. So I think this bug will occur when you are in range of any known WiFi network that you automatically join.
Does anyone have LTE data on their phone? My data on my phone is constantly on and it does not connect to any WiFi source.
The only time I notice switching to media to automatically play on my iPhone is when I was using my phone last on the Nav as my media source. Before I leave the car, I switch it to radio and the next time I come back to the vehicle it doesn't connect any longer.
I don't know if this is connected to the issue discussed though. But just letting you know that the Nav will try to automatically play the source it was last connected to.
I know folks have issues with vehicles and I know some dealers are less than average when it comes to the way they interact with customers. I guess I'm lucky because my dealership treats me very well when it comes to service. Not only that, but they have a very good service department. Frankly, that's why I keep buying my Jeep vehicles from them. If they didn't treat me right, I'd find another even if it were less convenient to get to.
As far as the customer service team here and other Jeep forums, I've not had to use them but I've read folks some folks have been able to get their problems resolved by reaching out to them. Better than nothing and at least an additional outlet to reach out to them. Personally, I'd rather get on the phone with FCA Customer service and talk with someone.
This is getting really old. Everything was working fine until this upgrade. Since then I have had the frozen screens, the random change of station, and now the nav system randomly switches from "heading up" to "north up" and back again.
I don't have a '16, but on the rare occasion my uconnect acts up, a reboot will settle it right down. Push and hold the buttons on the volume and tuning knobs till it starts to reboot. You can do it while you're on the road. It's a computer, and just like windows, a reboot will reset the unit and clear errors. If you've tried this, and get no love, you might need a new radio. Also, reinstalling the update might help.
I'm having the system freezes after updating to 16.16.13 in my '15 GC Limited with nav. The system entirely locks up for about 30-90 seconds, often times shortly after starting. Everything continues to play (I'm mostly listening to SXM). Volume or any adjustment on screen does not work. Once the system in freezes, it will go through any adjustment i made to volume, station, etc in rapid succession. Called Uconnect today and was told it's not a known issue and that another update will be coming soon and it may possibly be addressed there. Annoying for sure. I do like the Siri eyes free capability, but the freeze ups are super frustrating. Glad I'm not the only one that's had this issue and called in. Hopefully the more that do, the more FCA will take notice.
I've posted this somewhere before but I had the freezing issue caused when I plugged my iPod into the USB hub. After the initial install it worked well for 3 weeks, then the freezing began. I was unable to hit any control on the touch screen and enable it. The screen completely locked up until I would pull the iPod out and reboot. I installed the update 2 times then called UConnect. After an hour of describing the troubleshooting I had already done to the agent, the fix was to re-install the old version. He mentioned that a new version would be released in August mostly to address some erroneous map locations but perhaps this issue and others might be addressed.
I have since talked with my Service Advisor at the dealership when I got the recall done and asked them NOT to update the radio to 16.16.3 as I had experienced problems. I inquired if they had the previous software releases and she told me they'd have to order them that they did not have them on hand but it can be done if you are truly that desperate.
My situation was lucky I suppose, I bought mine just before the previous release which addressed the remote control from hackers of the vehicle. I applied the patch myself so I've got the update file on hand. She suggested that is the best way to handle it--download the files and save them so you can revert backwards as this has the most minimal impact to us. The net of it is that you'll always have a version to revert back to if the new update doesn't work out.
For those experiencing problems, have you contacted UConnect and or your dealership? Ask them to place the old firmware versions out there in the event that we need to revert backward. I realize as people buy vehicles, the latest versions are applied prior to purchase so there might not be a version for you to revert back to. By having the old versions out there we could at least have clean proven versions to use until they are able to fix the latest version should there be issues with it.
I'm having the freezing issues too. Worked fine for a day now it's freezing for about 60 seconds-then whatever I pressed will actually register- even the volume. This is bad...
Update: seems to be working better throughout the day. Wtf.
