Re: Purchasing 2011 OVerland, confused about RER vs RHR

The sales guy finally called me back and said that the owner has a brand new summit he was driving w/the RHR in it. They are going to swap the units so i'll have the RHR in the 'base' overland. They also said that in a few weeks a CD/DVD update will be coming out that will update the RER to be exactly like the RHR. He said the hardware is identical, it's just a software update.

Good that you'll get the RHR (note that it was an early January build if that matters to you). I'd see if they would give you a great deal on the Summit if they are eager for a sale...ya never know.

RER does not equal RHR hardware...that is BS from what I know. So, buyer beware with this dealer....

Re: Purchasing 2011 OVerland, confused about RER vs RHR

Thanks, I work for a company that gets the affiliate pricing, but maybe they would work w/me. Good suggestion.

---Edit---
Summit not for sale, it's actually the owner's of the dealership. This all sounds a little shady to me though. What kind of tests can I do tomorrow before I take delivery of it? I haven't used any of the features on the nav or bt yet, so i wouldn't know how to tell the difference.

The main 3 things I think I need to test are:
1. Sirius Travel Link - see if sports scores, weather and fuel prices show up?
2. Bluetooth Audio Streaming - pair my phone w/the jeep, and see if it will play audio through the sound system?
3. Hands Free Texting - not sure exactly what this entails - reading and composing text messages?

Is that about right?

If they are eager...you should be able to do better than affiliate pricing. It has been sitting on their lot since 1/19...that's about 70 days sitting there...seems a long time to me.

It could very well be a software update.

^^^ Doubt it based on Milous' posts that the wait for the RHR was worth it.

Ended up ordering a new one. Should be here in about 8 weeks. FYI you cannot swap them out so easily because the RER has a dedicated iPod adapter in that front storage area, next to the power plug. The RHR has a USB adapter in the center arm rest.
