Questions about replacing front Tweeters on alpine system.

Im looking into upgrading my front factory tweeters on my WK2 2015 alpine system, have several questions.

I read somewhere that the oem front tweeters are 6ohms, can a 3 ohm tweeter like a Infinity reference 075tx work, or do I have to not go lower than at least 4 ohms? don't want to burn the oem amp with a very low ohm load.

Can a 1" tweeter fit or do I have to stay with no bigger than 3/4"? I want to install it behind the sail panel just like the stocker and not over the sail panel (want to avoid cutting a larger hole on the outside of the sail panel, will cut inside as long as its not visible)

THX in advance

Re: Questions about replacing front Tweeters on alpine system.

My Focal tweeters fit inside the factory location when I trimmed the inside factory mounting ring down. There was no visible modification to the location. They have a 45 mm mounting diameter.

Questions about replacing front Tweeters on alpine system.

I'm contemplating the same upgrade. My Polk center channel is so overwhelming for my tastes that I may go back to the stock alpine center and just upgrade the sail tweeters.

I actually miss the base 6 speaker system that was in my '14.

Re: Questions about replacing front Tweeters on alpine system.

I have the infinity reference 6x9 components and the tweeter fit behind the grill with no cutting just used some 3m double sided tape to hold it into the stock position. I believe it is a 3/4 inch tweeter.

As a long time hi-fi buff I can tell you there is no way one can appreciate the benefit of a truly hi-fi quality tweeter in a car. All you are likely to achieve is to upset the tonal balance of the system. Save your money and just enjoy the music.

Greetings,

100 percent on the money. That is why I focused first on finding the right tweeter for my complete overhaul. Plus, JGC only needs 1 pair of tweeters.

However, for sum folks a simple change brings a world of clarity. And that to them makes their day. After all, people perceive sound is differently and the could be in any level.

Getting back to tonal balance, for years I have been stressing this here on the forum. This is an important consideration that must be factored in. In the premium system that the GC offers, the end result is you might be paying way more than your factored budget was setup for. This is especially true with the 2014+ models. Some in the past have successfully did it, while others have not gotten the result they are looking for. The stock 6 speaker system is much easier to work with.

Best for now.

Re: Questions about replacing front Tweeters on alpine system.

Thanks for the advise guys, will give a quick reason on why I want to replace my tweeters with a pair with a higher dB rating

Ive had aftermarket sound systems on several cars over the last 20 years: 15" subs on single cab trucks, 3x8" subs on single cabs trucks, dual 12" on a VW Golf, single 10" on a double cab truck, dual 10" on doble cab trucks, dual 10" and dual 12" on vw bug, some systems with just coaxial speakers and low rms amps and others with high quality components on high rms amps.

After all those different systems I reached a conclusion that on my wk2 alpine system I needed a better louder/deeper sub and a much brighter tweeter up front, I really like the way the mids sounds after adding an aftermarket sub with a 750 rms amp and setting the equalizer to 0 on the subwoofer range, but I have the tweeter on the highest setting and I still dont get the sound level and brightness I like, thats why I want to replace the front tweeter with a higher efficiency rating one.

Dont want to spend a lot of money on sound systems anymore, would rather upgrade suspension and wheels on my current budget

OK, if you are after a duff duff sound, then that's another story outside of my area of knowledge.

Re: Questions about replacing front Tweeters on alpine system.

Greetings,

If your music genre works best with a brighter hi's that give you that metal tin sound (i.e. Focal) as in the club scene, then that is the direction you should take.

Just remember the factory DSP is calibrated to work with a soft dome tweeter. The DSP settings are all geared for SQ rather than SPL. In addition, you are limited the the power output of the factory amp to drive the aftermarket. So even if the aftermarket tweeter does have a high efficiency rating, it might not have the power behind it to drive it successfully.

Based on that, if you do need the power, look into a 4-channel DSP/AMP combo that you can use to fine tune the front door. Unfortunately, with the sub, you are still stuck with the factory DSP settings. There are many DSP/AMP combo units coming on the market now at various different price points.

Best for now.

Re: Questions about replacing front Tweeters on alpine system.

Thanks guys, Ive tried pioneer and infinity coaxials in the past, Boston pro comps, pioneer premier comps, old school mbquarts, even 3 way dynaudio comps, spent $50 on coaxials up to over $500

Now I just want to keep it simple and inexpensive.

Will look into just getting just the focals and be done with the front stage
