R40 recall

So I received the R40 recall notice (software vulnerabilities that can allow
third-party access to certain networked vehicle control systems) in the mail yesterday for the radio software update. Along with the letter came attached a small USB card which gives you the option to update yourself instead of taking it to the dealer (nice touch). I did this last night and all went smoothly. Now after the update, I have Sirius XM again. I had let the 12 month free subscription expire a year ago so I was without XM. Anyone else encounter this? Did I re-activate the 12 month free subscription with the software update? I'll take the free ride for now and will check our credit cards to make sure there are no charges. What do you think, should I call Sirius about this or let it ride?

Re: R40 recall

I'd check your statements, but let it ride without notifying Sirius.

Re: R40 recall

I can't answer your question, but I do question giving Sirius your credit card. This means you loose the ability to negotiate your renewal rate.

Re: R40 recall

Sirius has a promotion this week enabling the subscription until Sept. 8th. That is probably why you now have it.

I never gave them my credit card. However, my wife did for her SiriusXM on her iPhone. So I guess I'll need to check her statement in the next few days.

LOL, no, they never had my credit card info. I had the free 12 months on my current 2014 WK2 (expired last year) and had a 2 year subscription on my 2011 WK2, which was on my wifes card. She currently has XM on her iPhone and also had it in her Escape. So we will be checking her card(s) for any charges for my Jeep after Sept 8.

Re: R40 recall

I received the R40 recall update package today. I have already downloaded and installed the update (15.26.1) in July. I'm wondering about the Sirius/XM returning. Has anyone else using the mailed update usb seen their sat radio come back on? Maybe something in the mailed update gave some more free sat radio.

Re: R40 recall

Just call Sirius and tell them you got the 5 month offer in the mail and pay that via a money order. It's 28.90 for the five months..when it gets close to the 5 months again give them a call and do it again.

Re: R40 recall

I was never a fan of the audio quality, so I never listen to it and won't renew it.

Too many mods to list for each, so let's just say a lot was done over the years.
