If and when it comes, I don't intend to allow it until Magnus can update his Jailbreak software. I really don't want to give up my front camera. It was very useful on my recent trip to Utah.

Re: RA3 AND RA4 RADIO OVER THE AIR SOFTWARE UPDATES (v17.11.07)

So I have 2 calls in today. First was to UConnect.

I wanted to know whether there was a rollback plan in place. The CS Rep told me they had staff available to troubleshoot problems and if they could not fix it, go to my dealer, they'd assist with costs of repair. I also asked if there were programmers in place to address bugs as/if they arise to ensure a fix is put out in a timely fashion.

She could not answer me definitely on this.

Next call was to Jeep.

Same story, though I did ask to speak with a manager.

Spoke with a nice gentleman that understood my concerns. I still do not have answers on a rollback plan, but did get some clarity. He's going to follow up with me on the rollback, not only for the firmware versions we were able to download and copy, but future versions of the OTA. I stressed my desire to have a rollback option and the benefits to them and the consumer. Rolling back is a lot easier than paying for a new radio or a dealer to reprogram a radio (if that's possible).

This latest release was first put out in beta testing in January. Since that time, it has been updated a few times with fixes and the latest version we have available has proven, thus far, to be a stable release. He commented that he's fielded only a few calls on this version (it is still largely new) but they were calls about how to vs. calls where people are reporting problems. He also mentioned things have changed within the company, since they have decided to go in this direction, but did not elaborate on the specifics. It sounded as though they may be aligning the staff more appropriately to handle the OTA updates or at least that was what I've concluded.

I'm feeling better about the update, but not yet sold. I want to make sure there is a way to roll back as I had to when the 16.16 version was released. I was able to do this within 20-30 minutes by copying the files to a USB stick, plugging in and rolling back the software vs. going to a dealer to have them either order me a new radio or new software.

Please, if you have concerns call UConect or Jeep and address them, this is how we can be heard. I know we have a couple folks who've updated now and perhaps there are others. Please continue to share experiences good and bad as this will benefit the entire community.

One of my concerns is that a motivation for this is to eliminate the use of third party software on the systems.

It today's cars, very few (if any) of the computers are ever fully off... Including the Radio. The screen being off is no indication of whats going on in the back ground.

Similarly to those who were surprised that the update comes across even if you aren't paying for cell service, just because you aren't paying for it doesn't mean its not live and broadcasting whatever FCA needs it for.

Big Brother is here folks....

This is likely one of the reasons but probably far down the list. Those who modify it are likely a very tiny %.

More likely, are the thousands upon thousands who have this system and have NEVER updated it, meaning they have none of the updates that plug the hole allowing remote hacking, among many other "improvements" over the years.

While updates do occasionally introduce new bugs, they always squash older ones and by forcing it over the air, they save money on dealer visits and reduce phone calls into their support centers.

Just checked my MY14 SRT and the update is not available...so it must be strictly OTA.

The QNX Neutrino OS does shut down though. The uConnect software has hooks that fire at vehicle poweroff; the boot.sh script does re-execute after this next time the computer is powered on.

This is true.

It would be very strange for that scenario to occur. They would have to leave the USB update mechanism in place but deliberately break its functionality in a way that would brick the device.

The way the update system worked in the past was fairly straightforward. The system executed boot.sh, with the update check happening at the end, as part of the main script execution path. If it found an update (and the user chose to execute it), then the ISO was copied to the internal storage and the system rebooted into update mode whereupon the ISO was validated and then overwrote the existing installation entirely.

BTW, random weird fact: on my 2014, executing a system reboot via the buttons causes the clock display *setting* to reset from 24 hour mode to 12 hour mode (AM/PM). Reproducible 100% of the time, though I haven't encountered any other settings that get nuked & overwritten like that. WTF?

Will we still get the OTA update even if we do not have a Uconnect subscription?

Nope. 2014 Laredo 3.6. And this is really starting to tick me off. I'm in the Detroit area, opened 20ish tickets with FCA over the crap with the radio (yes, I know this wouldn't affect my place in line), was told that the update would be out in October of 2016 for sure, and we're still waiting? At least they could publish it via USB as well.

Bah. Ok, rant off. I'm just seriously pi$$ed off at FCA. Love my Jeep in so many ways, why do I have to get angry at it every single time I drive it? And it's all things that could be fixed so very very easily. Just makes it worse.

Get an 18. That's what I always do...upgrade. Wish they still made a high altitude to replace mine.

Are you having clock issues, or Phone requires service message? Do you have the 8.4 UConnect? Thanks.
