Probably won't be on the update site at all. Seems like it'll be over the air with no warning, and no manual update.

Re: RA3 AND RA4 RADIO OVER THE AIR SOFTWARE UPDATES (v17.11.07)

I wonder if this update will remove the ability to downgrade to a random earlier release version via USB. That would be a deal breaker for me. Then again, I don't believe the version I am running will be eligible for the OTA update anyway — I'll just have to be extra vigilant to protect it from "helpful" dealer techs.

The IP network connection can indeed be completely severed via trivial modification of the firmware. The actual aircard connection can be taken down as well, but that's unnecessary and perhaps counterproductive, as the aircard provides the E911 voice functionality in addition to access to the internet.

I still get regular VHR's with my exact accurate and current mileage
Those would be stopped, along with anything else that accesses the internet via the aircard.

Only minor, hopefully one-off stuff. The SiriusXM presets went away once but later reappeared. The backup camera didn't work once but returned at next opportunity.

2019. They are really on the ball!

Magnus got back to me today and said that his software is keyed so that Chrysler won't be able to update the radio while it is installed.. As soon as he can get his hands on the update (assuming he can), he will get an updated Jailbreak out. He may have to deconstruct an updated US unit though to get that information if it's not available for download.

Re: RA3 AND RA4 RADIO OVER THE AIR SOFTWARE UPDATES (v17.11.07)

If your vehicle is equipped with Uconnect Access connected services, featuring a built-in cellular connection, you may receive Over-the-Air Software Updates. The vehicle must be located in the US and in range of a useable cellular network. The following vehicles offer Uconnect Access on the 8.4-inch systems:

2015-17 Chrysler 200
2015-16 Chrysler 300
2017 Chrysler Pacifica
2015-16 Dodge Challenger
2015-16 Dodge Charger
2014-17 Dodge Durango
2013-17 Dodge Viper
2014-17 Jeep Cherokee
2014-17 Jeep Grand Cherokee
2015-17 Jeep Renegade (Uconnect 6.5)
2013-17 Ram 1500
2013-17 Ram 2500/3500/Chassis Cab

Note: The 2017 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Challenger and the 2017 Jeep Compass will not receive this over-the-air software update.

So vehicles without cell service get screwed out of this update?

Yah, I'm curious what happens if you don't have a UConnect subscription. It would seem mighty unusual for those units to have service.

This was posted earlier:

" Customers will see a notification on their radio screen when new software is available for their radio (Fig. 1). The owner will have the option to update the radio or schedule the update for later. There is not an option to
decline the update indefinitely. The update must be performed."

IIRC, in 2015 when "rocketrancher" was trying to stop the outbound data send and it was a booger of a task...you were on that thread some too but I didn't follow all 15+ pages of his/your deep, deep diving efforts....FWIW, I have never had an activated Uconnect subscription on my '15 SRT and it has phoned home since day one..I still get monthly VHR's with my accurate current mileage...

I'm pretty sure that if you have an 8.4A or AN, you have cell service. Whether you have a phone paired with the system is irrelevant.

If you have an 8.4AN and never drive your vehicle to an area that has Sprint cellular service, you might not receive the update your vehicle would have otherwise received. Otherwise, I would expect the OTA to be available. Think of it this way: Sprint's customer is FCA, not the vehicle owner. If you pay for access you are paying FCA to use their Sprint service subscription activated for your vehicle (in reality, likely a fleet-wide service contract between FCA and Sprint).

See above for explanation why data is sent regardless of whether you "activate" your account. As for killing the data link, severing the radio connection is the Hard Way. Completely killing the data network link functionality is trivially accomplished via firmware modification though. *That* would definitely stop your VHRs, etc.
