Rear overhead dvd- should I do myself?

Hey guys

So as you can see by my mods I'd like to think I'm pretty handy, everything was done myself.

But I have never worked on a headliner, and those airbags in the pillars frighten me.

I want to put in a rear dvd- I already have a lockpic to play dvd's on.

Was quoted 500 for a unit and 300 for install locally. I can buy units for 200-250 off amazon that look like they should do the trick.

Has anyone every done one themself? Guess you have to cut a hole, run wire, maybe put a panel on top of headliner to screw to? I guess I could run the wire to the rear pillar and follow my rear view camera to the stereo? How hard is to pull down the headliner? Easy to damage?

Any advice is appreciated!

Why not consider the seat-back mounted screen options for this...easier install and no mucking around with the headliner, etc. I personally wouldn't tackle trying to install a roof-mounted system...but that's me.

Re: Rear overhead dvd- should I do myself?

I had a buddy with the rear DVD option on his Expedition for his 2 boys.
When he upgraded the Expedition (newer), he dropped the rear DVD option and simply purchased another iPad for 1/4 the cost of the rear DVD option.

That way he had 1 iPad for each boy and they could each watch whatever movie or play whatever game they wanted.

Cheaper, easy to move from vehicle to vehicle, and most importantly....
No arguments over what to watch or play.

And now that he dropped the Expedition and leased a RAM crew cab truck, he isn't out any money...

If you don't want them dropping the tablets, buy some headrest mounts for them.

Just my $0.02 on the subject.

Yeah rather than spending 700$+ for a good rear dvd player I just spend 25$ for a headrest mount for this tablet, guess we will have to reach around and start/stop movies, but we can live with that...
