Yes. You can even just take a $10.00 camera and split the RCA signal into three lines and plug that into your radio and power the camera and make it work, after you flash it.

It just depends on how nice and complete you want the end product.

Check out Step 14 of this pdf.

Re: Rear View Camera in Laredo?

I was reading through the Ram write up again and realized I may need to buy some of the harnesses that are sold for the Ram as none such things exist. Specifically, do you know where I can buy just the pins to connect into the radio and BCM harness? I am going to run my own wires to the front, but want to still make use of the factory harnesses and not start splicing random wires in.

Hi DanPorges

Re: Rear View Camera in Laredo?

The camera is installed, but not wired. I just received the pins from Lassen Loop and will be installing it shortly on my WK2, but right now the truck is in the shop for the transmission issue and I am awaiting Chrysler's "final attempt" to repair it. As soon as I get it back I will be doing the wiring and will snap as many pictures as I can to post a full write up.

Re: Rear View Camera in Laredo?

Against my better judgement, have booked the Big Red Fire Truck in to get the rear park camera fitted.

Down here in Oz there is great dissatisfaction with the supposed "OEM" camera supplied and fitted after delivery.

The quality and resolution in day time is poor and night time is useless as well as the fishbowl effect.

Call to the Jeep Customer Service Line here Downunder is a crock, they say cant complain until after fitment of camera.

Then complaints hit a brick wall anyways.

One owner replaced his with a $20 camera from Choina and has tripled the quality of the vision.

So whats wrong with this organisation??

So, getting it fitted next week. Make my own assessment and then go to town on Jeep. Our Oz Jeep GC MY14 brochures show the Laredo Rear Park camera with perfect vision.

Will keep you posted.

Thanks Bluey.... I have heard a lot of stories from dealerships in my area who are fitting an "OEM" camera to the Lareado and ending up with something less than satisfactory. They dug in only to find out that it was not a real OEM and was wired into a factory harness by splicing and either had the radio hacked to get it active or used non-OEM connection points and used some back door on the BCM and such. What I am doing is using an authentic, and quite pricey, OEM camera and utilizing factory pins to connect to the BCM and Stereo through OEM harnesses, so I expect to have less of a problem.... Will keep everyone posted!

Re: Rear View Camera in Laredo?

G'day Dan P,

The bloke here in Oz who got sick of his "OEM" rear camera fo his MY14 Laredo and replaced it with a better performing chinese A$20 camera said that the camera removed indeed had a Jeep part Number but it was also made in China?

From "Peanut"

See post http://www.jeepgarage.org/f190/2014-...tml#post956531

and this as well;

http://www.jeepgarage.org/f190/2014-...tml#post955880

PM him and see how he did his technically. He lives in Port Hedland which is in NW Western Australia, very remote, an 18 hour drive / 1700km/ 1100miles to the State capital of Perth.

Re: Rear View Camera in Laredo?

MY14 Laredo Rear Park Camera Installed

Finally had my camera installed at Frankston Jeep. (Melbourne, Victoria)

The usual fishbowl view with no grid lines.

BUT, I must say it is a help in reversing up to van hookup and tight spots.

The resolution in my view is not bad, but I have never had a rear park camera before to compare it to.

So, not sure where to now??

Bit tired, think I might go home now.

Re: Rear View Camera in Laredo?

Hi there,

If anyone is interested I have a genuine Jeep camera removed from a 2013 WK2 Laredo. I replaced it as I replaced my screen with a aftermarket unit that allowed me to attach more cameras and also had GPS.

The camera is in perfect condition and appeared to be of good quality while I was using it.

PM me if interested,

Regards,

Pete
Australia.

Looking forward to seeing pictures and install Dan P!

I am still amazed that Jeep can install such a nice 8.4" touchscreen radio and leave out the backup camera!
