Replace 8" sub with JBL?

Just wondering if any of the audio guys out there think that simply swapping in this sub for the factory 8" in the 2014 alpine factory system would improve things.

JBL GTO804 Grand Touring Series 8" 4-ohm subwoofer at Crutchfield.com

8" 4-ohm subwoofer
polypropylene cone with Hi-roll rubber surround
power range: 50-200 RMS watts (800 watts peak power)
frequency response: 30-400 Hz
sensitivity: 91 dB
mounting depth: 4-3/8"
sealed box volume: 0.30 cu. ft.
ported box volume: 0.60 cu. ft.

No amp, no nothing - just the sub swap.

I really would like to tighten up the low end a bit if I can do it without going full stealthbox amp etc

I know some of you guys on here know a ton about audio so give me your thoughts please.

Re: Replace 8" sub with JBL?

Greetings,

The quick answer is, if the factory sub box is the same type of plastic bladder that came in the first Wk2 back in the 2011 model year, then the answer is will be no. If even if you add additional sound matting and plywood to stiffen the enclose with the JBL speaker you want, it still will not be tuned correctly. The power in the factory amp is not enough to push the speaker to reach proper level.

My advise is to get the JL Audio Stealthbox or visit a custom shop that can build you a nice enclose. Their are many subwoofers out their than can be used in a proper box.

Best for now.
