What stage HATs did you go with?? Did you listen to the focals before you bought the HATs? Have you noticed if the focal tweeters have the metallic sound?

Greetings,

The HAT's are stage 5 & 6 as follows:

Front door L6SE, Tweeter L1 Pro R2
Center L3SE
Rear Door L3V2 (i did not want that much punch in that area)
Rear Pillar L3SE
Subwoofer is the Stealtbox (need my cargo area)

The focal is based on a metallic sound. Many folks like that sound, but I am in to a more SQ quality. They do have a berliyum tweeters that is more expensive than my tweeter. That focal system was way over my overall budget ($$,$$$.$$). The first time I listen to Focal's was about 20+ years ago. I never did like their tweeters and that is my taste.

The HAT's mid bass/midrange drivers hit just as hard as the FOCAL across the board. The tweeters are very clean and dynamic. I have also heard the stage 4 (Clarus) in a car was also impressed. Their are other members who have excellent results with Stage 2 (Imagine) and Stage 4.

Best for now.

If I just replace the 6x9s with the l6v2, and the tweeters with the l1v2, do you think I would have to get a new amp and run new speaker wire? I don't care about playing loud music but would like it if it were more clear than stock. Did you have any trouble with fitting them when switching out the tweeters or dash speaker with the HAT speakers? I currently have the alpine 9 setup in a 12 overland.

Thanks!

Greetings,

Here is an excerpt from a recent post I wrote:

When I installed my HAT's in the front door, we hooked them directly into the factory system. The fronts are the L6SE (6.5) and the L1 Pro R2 tweeters. Yes, their was some improvement, but you could not play them to loud with out hearing distortion. After we change the HU to the Pioneer AppRadio 3, the improvement was nice. In my case, these speakers need some power behind it. The funny thing is, HAT's need some time to breakin. Once the speakers had the right power behind, it was night day. We temped into the factory lines just to hear it. We also heard the stupid crossover points.

With regards to you purchasing a new amp, as I keep writing in the forum, what might be right for me in terms on how the sound is, might be different for you. With the HAT Stage 5 Legacy you really need the correct power behind it. Today, any quality Class D aftermarket amp with at least 75 watts per channel will make the HAT's sing as it was meant to be. This way, you can appreciate what is coming out of the system. Now do you need a DSP or LOC? Depending upon your upgrade path and how fast you want total satisfaction is up to you. I would hook the speakers up and listen to it for while on the factory DSP settings. You are going to have to wait a couple of hours till the HAT'S break-in. Then make your decision. As I tell me folks at this stage, the question becomes do I want a traditional front, rear and sub or surround sound system.

Believe it or not, the speaker wire was not changed. The stock speaker wire is pretty good, which is the only thing good in the factory system. In terms fitting the tweeter, a little hot glue to hold in place and it rock solid. Click on to my profile, you should see some pictures of the install.

Hope this helps and Best for now.

Awesome, that's great news on the speaker wire. Thanks!

Re: Replaced my 2014 Overland Dash Speaker

Sorry, didn't see the reply until now. I haven't had a chance to make the swap, and I likely won't for a while. My garage is full of another project at the moment.
