Re: Replaced my 2014 Overland Dash Speaker

Been following this thread and I have a couple of questions;

What is the difference between a Polk Audio DXi350 3.5" speaker & a Polk Audio DB351 3.5" speaker?? I've seen both mentioned & pictured in this thread. Will either of these 3.5" speakers work as an upgrade to the center dash speaker in a 2012 Grand Cherokee?

They both appear to be Polk coaxial 3.5" speakers while the DB351's appear to be "marine" rated. They both appear to be discontinued models as of right now no longer made by Polk?? But seem to be available on Amazon & E-Bay.

The biggest difference will be during phone calls in the car,it will sound much better, now whether they will fit your 2012 is unknown at this point. You'll have to check the specs.

Re: Replaced my 2014 Overland Dash Speaker

I was looking for an explanation of the differences, if any, between the two different Polk Audio speaker model #'s mentioned in this thread. What is the difference between a Polk Audio DXi350 3.5" speaker & a Polk Audio DB351 3.5" speaker??

Not really sure if there is much of a difference between the under dash center speaker mounting area in a 2012 vs. a 2014 WK2 Grand Cherokee, but if anyone has any insight on that please do share. Thanks!

I found this on Facebook, posted by Polk Audio directly to the same question on their page (but in reference to a 6.5" speaker)

...Overall, the DXi plays louder and sounds better.

In A/B Testing of the DXi vs. DB, the DXi wins because the DXi has:

* Increased sensitivity
* Enhanced material technologies
* Optimized grille design
* Improved crossover

This isn't to say that the DB is a slouch. Just that the DXi has the edge.
I am thinking that for this particular speaker replacement, the DB will be just fine but that is just an assumption on my part.

I read a Polk response on Facebook somewhere where they said the DXi350 crossover is slightly higher quality. All other specs are exactly the same.

760hacker, did you end up trying the Hertz? I am considering them. I would also like the Boston Accoustics (fantastic speakers) but they they are hard to come by.

Didn't do anything yet but still trying to figure out what route to take. I know that once I replace one speaker it will end up a full project replacing all speakers.

Well the hertz aren't cheap, and I don't have a JGC yet, but I would be willing to get a pair together when I do.

Too bad about Boston Acoustics though.
