Re: Replaced my 2014 Overland Dash Speaker

If anyone is looking to do this center dash speaker upgrade; I have a brand new, never used or installed Polk DB351 3.5" coaxial speaker available along w/a Metra 71-039 plug and play wire harness for mounting into a WK2.
PM me.

Re: Replaced my 2014 Overland Dash Speaker

As a follow up to this, I finally did the installation. Took maybe 15 minutes...tops...taking my time. Super easy.

I can tell there is a change, I can hear better highs from the center area. Not bad!

Attached are some pics for reference.
  • Side by side, OEM on left
  • Speaker with adapter harness
  • Area through windshield showing where speaker mounts

Re: Replaced my 2014 Overland Dash Speaker

Okay, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered the stuff, my phone calls get muddier every day, parts should be here this weekend. If someone else is looking for a single speaker and adapter, pm me.

Re: Replaced my 2014 Overland Dash Speaker

Now that we've gotten the center done, who's doing the pillar tweeters and door speakers as an initial upgrade without amps to really enjoy the sounds?

I somehow ordered the wrong speaker adapters. I called all over Long Island and most audio shops told me that's not a speaker harness number. I thought I would cannibalize them and took one apart, but I decided to just order the correct adapters from Crutchfield and wait forever for them to arrive.

Make sure you don't type 71-039 into amazon and accidentally click on 72-6514 at the top like I did.

Well, its in and done, but I expected more from the posts in this thread. Certainly the dialog is more clear, but not any louder. I regularly have to turn it up into the 30s on handsfree. My door panels are still muddy and occasionally my tweeters get scratchy (its been this way since I got the jeep).

I've got the other speaker and an adapter for $30 shipped if anyone wants it.

Greetings,

In some cases depending upon how those folks perceive sound, this all that is required. It seams that in your case, you a picking up the bad points of the Alpine system.

If you have not read this thread, then this will help you understand what is happening and towards the end their are posts on the center channel:

Factory Frequency Response

You can upgrade the front door 6x9 and tweeter with one of the POLK component sets. This is a direct swap for speaker to speaker and you are not using the included passive crossover. IMO, the 6.5 drivers are better in this case. Now the front stage L/C/R in match in timbre. You are taking chance that this might not help your situation or help. And that, nobody can really tell because it is all about how you perceive the sound.

At least at this point you can add amps to get better volume and a DSP processor (later if you needed it) to create crossover point, time delays and any eq points that need to be adjusted. For the rear door and pillar I would wait until those upgrades break-in and see.

Best for now.

Re: Replaced my 2014 Overland Dash Speaker

That one speaker won't fix any sound in the doors. It does provide some clarity actually much more depending on what you're listening to. Try upgrading the door speakers also then go the amp route. We all have to turn up the stock radio if we want any sound to kick in.

I read that thread as it was linked in another one recently. Well beyond my technical level.

I'm not an audiophile. I'm perfectly happy with the way the music sounds. Unfortunately I spend way too much time on hands free handling business. I don't keep a vehicle more than 3 years and have no interest in adding an amp or a DSP. I can live with what I have.

Could you recommend a set of front speakers that might clean up the dialog? If I read you correct, I would not use the included Polk crossover in the new component set?
