"Bass Blockers" are high-pass X-overs (at the simplest, a capacitor) to reduce the amount of low-frequency signal getting to the speaker. Small drivers like these 3" speakers just can't handle the amount of movement needed to produce low-frequency sound. There are small speakers with very long-throw voice-coils/magnets/suspensions that could handle the bass; these just aren't those.

You may not need them because the DSP in the Premium systems should already be steering the bass away from the center-channel.

What is the best tool to use to remove the plastic cover piece on the dashboard? Flat head screwdriver?

Re: Replaced my 2014 Overland Dash Speaker

A plastic trim removal tool would be best. I ordered a whole kit off of Amazon. Pretty cheap.

Re: Replaced my 2014 Overland Dash Speaker

I have two Boston Acoustics S35's if anyone is looking. One is brand new and the other was mounted for a week.

Re: Replaced my 2014 Overland Dash Speaker

I would't have taken it out, but I wanted to put my Fountek FR89 in. I ended up using the factory basket and fit the Fountek inside for ease of mounting. The Bostons have a very high sensitivity rating so they perform very well. Probably the best 3.5", for a quick swap you can get. Getting hard to find though, Ebay has none. I bought one of the last sets from Woofersetc.

If you don't like them, let me know. These aren't going anywhere.

Why are the Boston's supposedly so good as compared to the others?

If you get the chance, please post details about your installation process with the Founteks.

I am considering upgrade of the center dash speaker on my 2014 Overland to either the 3.5 inch Polk DXi350 or an Infinity Reference 3.5 speaker (X Ref 3002cfx?). Better imaging, you think, with the Fountek?
