Quick 15 minute job. Replaced with Polk Audio DB351 3.5" speaker. Went with this one because of the 91db sensitivity.
Bottom line...it's worth the minimal money and time. It does not change the overall sound of the system at all, but the increase in bluetooth phone conversation sound is worth every penny.
They came with bass blockers, but I installed it without it because the factory amp should block enough bass with its crossover points.
I still have a speaker left if anyone is interested. $25 shipped. $20 for anyone in MA who wants to pick it up. Live in Upton, work in Newton.
Does anyone have an extra Polk db351 center channel speaker w/adapter they would like to sell?? I am upgrading my 2014 Jeep Overland . . . one speaker at a time!
Sherif, you need to get the center speaker switched out, NOW! I just did the re & re with a new Polk DB351 center and the difference is pretty amazing! Who would believe a tiny center channel speaker upgrade would sound so much better! I was impressed . . . Now I need to hear from those who have switched out the front door speakers with either the Polks or the HATS. :arms: Lets hear your comments, please . . . :w00t:
Just dd this very upgrade but went with the Infinity Reference 30002cfx speaker. Mostly because I've used Infinity speakers in the past and have been pleased with their sound and secondly I was having problems finding the polk speaker. Great upgrade I must say, now I'm trying to convince the wife the rest of the speakers need help too! She says I spend too much money on my cars.:slapfight:
Anyway if anyone else would like the other speaker with plug and play harness just shoot me an offer because it's just taking up space at the moment.
How did the Infinity fit in terms of depth? Those that did the polk said it was tight and i want to swap mine but with someting other than polk. Trying to get a reference for the actual amount of space available.
It would appear the center channel speaker replacement movement is in full force! It's an easy & cheap replacement but I noticed a HUGE improvement in sound quality! I was surprised how much of your stereo sound comes through this little speaker! Also, when you are using the hands-free phone, their voice is significantly clearer! I am looking to do the fronts now with HAT speakers.
Has anyone put a center in other than the Polk and Infinity models, perhaps a HAT, AUDISON/HERTZ or other? I've had a previous bad experience with Polk and would rather use another brand.
760hacker, I installed the Polk & it was a perfect fit. Took me all of 20 minutes start to finish. The sound is sooooo much better than stock & I was quite impressed with the Polk sound. What bad experience do you speak of?
The Polk center fits perfectly and takes 15 minutes to install. The only challenge is taking the two mounting screws off given the space to fit your hands. I have replaced all speakers except the rear pillars. I heard the Polk will fit rear pillars as well but haven't verified this.
There was an earlier post of a member who went all Polk Audio and ended up going back to factory. I have Polk Center, Focal front and rear speakers, and JL Audio Stealthbox with 500w JL Audio mono amp. My setup is awesome. It took two weeks for the Focals to break in. Crutchfield sends excellent installation instructions outlining each step for all speaker locations. I saved the instructions as a PDF if anyone needs it.
Ok, I have a pair of the Polk speakers; but have had trouble finding the 71-039c adapter.
A local shop said they just make their own wires, but "always test the phase" so they know how to wire it...
Has anyone had issues with wiring theirs in or out of phase?
I guess if I make my own adapter - I'll need to research the wire colors
With the correct adaptor this shouldn't be an issue as the adaptors mentioned in this thread are plug and play and can only be installed one way. The spade connectors have one large and one small lug and can only plug in the correct way.
