Replacing 2014 UConnect with 2016 UConnect possible?

As the title says, is this possible? I want the Siri Eyes Free feature that the 2016 units have... Anyway to buy a 2016 UConnect unit and simply replace them?

Not likely due to other electrical/computer interface things. There are already minor differences between MY14 and MY15 on the UConnect system, AFAIK.

Time to sharpen your pencil and figure out how you're going to buy that MY16

I'd think it could be done. Back when I had a BMW, people were swapping newer Idrive systems into their cars all the time. BMW did a drastic update around 2009 with a high-def screen and a lot more features. It was expensive to do, but all the wiring should already be there, don't know why it wouldn't be plug and play.

MY14's couldn't be updated with MY15 units because the media hub was incompatible and you lost USB functionality putting the 15 unit in the 14.

Only time will tell if 16's can go into 15's. I bet it ?will be plug and play but will the media hub drivers be compatible with the 15's we'll see. At this point I already upgraded to an RA4 from an RA3. I'm waiting until MY17 to do anything.

Greetings,

The best way to find out would be to ask the jeep mechanic not the service advisor. That is if you are dealing with an excellent service department.

If their is a difference in the vehicle system information, than it would be a problem. By that, the MY2016 is looking for a specific result and the MY2014 does not have that feature, than we have a computer error. This could potential lockup the Uconnect. Oh these computers.

Best for now.

That would be awesome if you could but i'll be lying if i didn't say i'm expecting too much from uconnect.

Currently happy with it. Round the time the 17's come out may look into something for wifey and compare what's out there in the market to fit our needs.

I discovered a site that does in fact offer uConnect radios for upgrading and replacing earlier versions.
OEM Auto Parts Co.

They also post a YouTube video on installation.

They told me it is totally plug n play to replace the '15 version with the '16 with new hardware and software. You might want to call them to discuss it. I would be curious to know if it actually does work and doesn't cause any problems.

RE: OEM AUTOPARTS

I replaced my 2014 Cherokee uconnect 5.0 with the uconnect 8.4 AN and it was a 10 minute job.

I did have to see the dealer and get the new radio flashed with the Cherokee info.
Cost 99.00 to have it done. Everything works as it should.
