Bummer.
Haven't checked around, but I wonder if others that have the RHR and done this have your problem.

Re: RHR 730 with CHR550 - backup camera issue fixed

So you are basically skipping over the lockpick and directly wiring the rear view camera into the radio like it was stock. You still have rear view camera in motion, but not in any other mode. Is that correct? The quality on the video after the lockpick install is horrid and I would be ok just using the camera to well... back up with. Only other reason I could think of using it while driving forward would be to try to get some assholes plate behind me. Why else would you use it?

I have had the CHR550 installed for about a year now and have never once checked the rear camera while driving forward.

I will be using this "Fix" on the 730 RER at some point this week and will update on how it works.

I'd love to see more pictures in this for before and after of the wires and the screens. I too might want to do this.

I have used the rear camera in forward while trailering my boat.

Well, I can no longer supply a picture of the backup screen prior to the fix, but the colour was almost black and white, blurry and the reference lines were of very bad colour.

After the fix, the screen appears to be as it was prior to the Lockpick install.

To me, this is a no-brainer, unless you are able to convince Coastaletech to ship you a new harness for free.

I went to take the radio out today and it seems the wires on the 730 RER are a little different. I do not have any red or blue wires. It is mainly all yellow wires except for a thicker blue wire in a different location than the photos uploaded. I've dealt with it and I guess I will have to continue to. Theres more upsides to the lockpick then the one downside of the distorted backup camera. Mine is clear just the colors are a little hazy.

I imagine the backup camera while in-motion can be quite comforting when towing something. I currently do not tow anything except put a Margaritaville Tailgating grill in the hitch when going to a concert/tailgate a few times during the summer.

Re: RHR 730 with CHR550 - backup camera issue fixed

Ok so I got the uconnect button thing to work once or twice today, but could not replicate it.

I pressed the UConnect (phone button) on the steering wheel controls twice and the rear camera showed up, I pressed it again and it turned off. Every time after that though all it would do was bring up the phone menu. Does the radio have to be in TV mode for this to work? or can it be in SAT or FM as well?

It works in all the other modes. Press uConnect twice in succession, but not too quickly, to turn on. Do the same to turn it off.

It's the Chr550 harness you are modifying, not the stock radio harness. Or am I misunderstanding you?

Re: RHR 730 with CHR550 - backup camera issue fixed

Bit of an update on this:

I spoke with Coastaletech today and apparently they designed the CHR550 unit back in late 2010 based on the original back up camera that came on the WK2. After the earthquake in Japan, Chrysler was forced to switch camera manufacturers and the new cam is not 100% compatible which is why some people have quality issues and others do not. He said it's about a 50/50 chance it will work right out of the box, otherwise you need to do the fix - which is not a deal breaker IMO.

I am leaning towards the CHR550 over other models as I like the additional integration with iPad/Pod. They also seem to be making an effort to improve customer service as both my emails were answered within an hour and I also spoke to them on the phone where they were friendly and helpful.

Decisions decisions.....

Is everyone still happy they went with the CHR550?

I am happy with it. The one function that doesn't work is turning on the back up camera while driving. I've managed to get it to work once or twice but can't consistently turn it off or on.

Not that I would ever really use this function. The Nav input and DVD/Netflix function works great.
