Noticed a new update, generously supplied by Sox over on the unofficial MyGig site http://mofv.com/mygig/BBS/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6266. It's a big download, almost 3GB. According to Sox it can be loaded on a USB flash to update the RHR just like the last update he provided.

I will attempt the update Friday, hopefully some better album art is in here!

Thanks Sox!

Major Improvement! I went from maybe less than 5% of over 450 songs stores on the Media Center displaying album art to more than 75% of them showing album art. It's not perfect, some tracks show the wrong art, some still show that crappy genre art, and others, the generic uconnect art, but overall a major improvement.

Painless install!

  1. Download the file. (Nearly 3 GB = 3 hrs for me)
  2. Extract the folders and files from the downloaded zip file
  3. Copy them to a USB flash drive
  4. Insert flash drive into front USB port of the 730N RHR
  5. Allow the installation to run (it takes about 30 minutes)
  6. Enjoy better track art.

Thanks to Sox for sharing the update, I'm sure Chrysler/Jeep will be notifying me soon to let me know an update is available. Wait, I just received an email, nope not from Chrysler, but it looks important, a request for help to launder money from a Nigerian functionary...

Tip from the School of Hard Knocks: Don't let your radio turn off for even a second during the install. I'd originally used ACCY, then decided this might switch off automatically during the install so I turned on the engine. This turned off the RHR for a second or so.

Bad move. It had already deleted the existing Gracenote, and now has nothing to update. So no Gracenote. At all.

Eventually I'll have to figure out how to install the original Gracenote, then try again.

UPDATE: After many more tries, got a message, "Invalid USB Device Detected." So apparently after this screwup it's expecting only, say, A/V files, not a program update. Maybe using a DVD will resolve this, but in principle if it won't read the Gracenote program files on USB anymore, it shouldn't have better results with a DVD.

Help please, got updating error message. Here is what I did. Unzipped GN 4118 RHR US folder. Copied GNDB folder and GNUPDATE file to an empty USB. Placed USB in 730N and it recognized it. Answered YES and update began. About half way through update the USB stopped flashing and I got a message something like "Serious Error" and it stopped updating. Now all my album art is the "My Connect" logo. I tried again and it asked if I wanted to update N/A Error to N/A 4118 and I said yes and encountered the error message again. Under System Information the Gracenotes number now shows "N/A (..." It use to show number 2311. Any ideas to correct the problem will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Larry

Update: The USB I was using was the same USB that worked okay with update 2.120, but I got an error message the three times I tried to update to Gracenote 4118. So I copied the GNDB folder and GNUPDAE file to another blank USB that was exactly the same model as the first USB that gave the error message. The second USB loaded the Gracenote update 4118 perfectly. Thanks Sox and Corp Cog for the update information.

I get the same SysInfo message for Gracenote. Too, don't believe the message when first doing the install that if the radio goes off during install, the install will resume next time the radio is turned on.

Believe that, and I have a bridge to sell you. Anyhow, it seems that a way needs to be found to install the earlier Gracenote. I have a funny feeling that comes bundled with the firmware, 2.120 in our case.

Thanks, Chero77, for the sensible recommendation. With the media center turned off and the three hard keys pressed, it obviously reset and placed everything back to factory default. That's the good news. Alas, the dead USB continues as before, so there is obviously some corruption.

When I have time to deal with it v2.120 will need to be reinstalled. After all the years I've spent in IT, I should have known better than to believe the Gracenote message that if the radio is turned off, the install will proceed where it left off next time the radio it turned back on. A healthy dose of paranoia is most helpful when flashing!

With these reports of issues if the radio shuts off during the update, I see there is one critical piece of information missing...

How Long Does this Update Take?!?

I think it would be good to know to ensure there is enough time/fuel/power/etc.

The installation screens advises approximately 30 minutes, I did it on my way to work, stopped and grabbed a large coffee (left the Jeep running instead of trusting the "it will resume" message (not my first MyGig media center!;))), it finished well before I arrived, so for me it was about 20 minutes, of course your mileage may vary. The only downside was I had no entertainment while it was updating, so I had to entertain myself be counting the number of people texting, or otherwise staring at their phones while driving.

Okay, I must be slow today.

I can't get the update to start.

I've placed the GNDB folder along with the gnupdate.txt file on a good USB device. I also put one .MP3 file on the drive to ensure the system could see it.

The system sees the .MP3 file but I don't see any pronpts or options for an update.

What are the specific files and steps needed to initate this update?

Snipe315, Here is what I did. Download and unzip gn 4118 rhr us. Then copy gndb folder and gnupdate file to a fat 32 blank USB (no mp3 files). Place USB in 730N and turn power to acc. Prompt for Gracenote update will appear shortly. Answer yes and update will begin. Takes about 20 minutes and will say update successful when completed. I left the Key FOB in the Jeep during the update and came back to check on it 15 minutes later. If it still does not work, try another USB. The first USB I used gave me a "Serious Error" message half way through the update and aborted update.

Thanks

So all I should need is the gnupdate file (which I see as a TEXT File) and the GNDB folder (both downloaded from Sox's site).

HELP!! - Unable to download GN 4118 RHR US.

Don't understand why I am unable to download the file. Logged into Sox's MyDrive with the correct username and password. Clicked down through the folder hierarchy to reach folder "GN 4118 RHR US" and clicked download. But the popup screen for me to save or open the file never comes up. I get the working or waiting symbol for 30 minutes, then the browser times out and says server unavailable.

I tested by downloading a smaller file and all worked well. So I suspect the problem has something to do with the big file size.

Does anyone know what's up?

I am having a similar issue. The download runs fine for about 15 minutes, then it stalls and I get an IE timeout error message. I have raised the idle timeout value in the registry but still having the same problem. It stops at a different point each time.

I have tried using to download using IE9 and Google Chrome. The file download begins but about 15 to 30 min into it, the download is interrupted and I get the server unavailable message. I have been trying to download this file all night and each time it will time out.
