How do I work out what size my HD is?

Re: RHR Gracenotes Update (Sox comes through again!)

Lingohocken, thanks for the info. It doesn't make sense that the 40GB radio contains 20 GB of Nav data. They may have given you a 30GB radio. Mine shows 20GB total, 11 useable, and the amount I've actually used which is somewhat less than that. The specs for the late August builds, and our build sheets show a 40 GB HD was supposed to be installed. If the radio is otherwise working well, it doesn't seem that difficult for them to just replace the HD.

You stated that the Gracenote version is still 3265 so even that isn't updated. At least you've got it working the way you wanted.

I guess I'll have to have my dealer look into it before too much time goes by.

Re: RHR Gracenotes Update (Sox comes through again!)

It seems awfully hopeful to expect Jeep to give a larger HD gratis unless the existing smaller one is defective. In any event I don't really need more capacity, but thanks for the kind suggestion.

From what Sox says Jeep has a novel way of indicating disk size. I read capacity on-screen as 20 Gigs using norms that have been around for years, but apparently it is larger. Go figure.

It would be interesting to know whether folks who just got WK2s manufactured very recently have the latest GN. Best guess is they don't, and Jeep won't be including it for another few weeks at least.

Still, gotta wonder how many people even make much use of GN these days.

Re: RHR Gracenotes Update (Sox comes through again!)

The 2011 730N was 30GB (11GB useable). So if your RHR shows approx 20GB useable, you have the 2012 model with the 40 GB HDD. The reason the 2012 730N RHR 40GB has less useable HDD space than the 2012 430N RHB GB is that the partitioning and operating system software for the 730N is more of a resource hog (with the different NAV system and additional features).

From another post on this forum:

"As a running change late in the 2011 model year the RHR HDD was changed from a 30GB (11 usable) to a 40GB (20 usable). All 2012 model year Grand Cherokee's have 40GB HDD's (40/20 for RHR and 40/28 for RHB)."

Re: RHR Gracenotes Update (Sox comes through again!)

Thanks, Justal13. Perhaps their capacity measurement refers to a single partition, not the whole physical disk.

Whatever, I am chewing nails because the vanishing satellite presets with driver settings 1/2 has resurfaced. It had vanished with the old radio after the upgrade to v2.120, but the new rig with v2.120 is wiping out the Driver 1 satellite presets whenever going from 2 to 1.

I'll try it some more in the morning in case it is being moody, but this really is a crock. I've been putting up with this for six months and two radios, and really am running at the edge of reasonable patience.

Long shot, perhaps, but I wonder if anyone whose WK2 was manufactured in January or February of this year could check their system info to see, under Hardware, what the system number is. Mine is 6852 001 2.17, and it might just be that this is an earlier piece of hardware with something other than firmware that ties into this problem. In principle, a system number over 6852 should be newer. For example, Pora10, who just bought his WK2, has 6858 (see below), which is mighty close and suggests that our unit here may only slightly older. But we don't know the date his WK2 was manufactured, which if he's in Australia could have been some time back.

Mine is build date October 12, 2011.

However I have not recognised the same issued you're having. But I also haven't updated to 2.120 yet or gracenotes.

Thanks. v2.120 won't cause this problem, but it if one has it with earlier firmware v2.120 can resolve it, as many JG folks have shown from their own experience. That's what is so puzzling with this new radio, but I want to keep trying it for awhile because the vanishing presets issue tends to be now-and-again.

Of course, for the driver 1/2 memory to trigger the problem, a WK2 needs to have that feature.

Re: RHR Gracenotes Update (Sox comes through again!)

Lingohocken, I'm sorry you are dealing with this again. It seems you may have taken a step backward with the change of radio. You have given me another reason to leave well enough alone. I'm thinking that I can live with the smaller HD. Eventually I will get the Gracenote update to work. In your shoes I would drive it right back to the dealer, show them what's going on and ask them to get you a "new" radio with the appropriate HD. Perhaps they can take one from a stock vehicle and replace it when they get another one, although they usually don't like doing that.

Re: RHR Gracenotes Update (Sox comes through again!)

77Chero, It's certainly weird. Our Overland has been virtually flawless from Day One except for this. It's kind of like having the Mona Lisa but with a tiny little scratch. I've redone the sat presets so often by now that I have the 12 channel numbers memorized so I can reinsert them quickly.

I'm going to let this play out for a couple of weeks, then if it recurs often -- yesterday it happened every time, but today it worked fine -- head back to our (very helpful) dealer.

Anyhow, this Murphy situation obviously is not happening to many other folks now that v2.120 is being installed. But I concur that you're better off for now letting sleeping dogs lie. Once Jeep begins to issue the new GN to dealers on a CD/DVD, you can have them do the install if GN means that much to you. For me, GN is of no real use or interest, so I wish I had just left things alone instead of yielding to perfectionistic impulse. But once the deed was done and the USB ports were defunct as a result, that had to be fixed.

If GN worked off CD files after they were transferred to HD, that might be a different matter. But I can't recall the last time I've popped in a CD except to load it onto HD which is not only handier, but also allows for deleting unwanted tracks.

Anyhow, to answer your original question, it appears that the replacement radio is a well-done refurb, but still a refurb judging from the system number.

Re: RHR Gracenotes Update (Sox comes through again!)

Maybe your radio just needs a reset. If the presets issue continues, it wouldn't hurt to try it. I also have had no issues other than with the radio but the memory issues have disappeared.

On another old and boring topic, this time I tried burning the GN files onto a DVD-RW. The system recognizes it as a data disc but the download still won't start. You're right, I really don't care about GN anyway so now I'm done with it.

If this is the worst problem I have,

Re: RHR Gracenotes Update (Sox comes through again!)

UPDATE: Downloading problem solved.

As stated earlier, I have not been able to download Sox's file GN 4118 RHR US from his MyDrive site. Corp Cog suggested I try a different browser. He was right. I've been trying with Internet Explorer on a Windows 7 machine. I tried the download with the wife's iMac and Safari. It worked like a dream; although slow. It took about six hours to complete the download.

I unzipped the downloaded file and followed directions given by others to transfer the correct files to a USB drive. The drive was recognized immediately and took only about 15 to 20 minutes to complete the upgrade.

MANY THANKS TO YOU SOX!!!

Good point. If this continues, I'll do a hard reset by pulling the fuse. Can't do any harm and just might help!
