This is one mod I may end up doing. I do like the 10w6, but am wondering if a shallow mount Alpine Type-R 10 would fit in the Stealthbox without the spacer. I would also have to figure out where to mount the amp so it can't be seen.

Look at JL and Alpines sites and look at the mounting depth of each woofer. I bet a Type R would fit with no spacing if I had to guess. And you can stick an amp under one of the front seats or in the spare tire cubby depending on the size. Lots of threads here showing some spots.

ALMOST everything works, I posted above about the rear collision detection or whatever it's called.
Unfortunately, the 6.95" Kenwood or Pioneer radios are a step down in size compared to stock. The width is the same but the aspect ratio changes from 4:3 to 16:9...

Oh yeah, forgot to mention I also have a Microsoft miracast HDMI wireless adapter. I can stream my Android's screen wirelessly with an Ad Hoc network, works pretty slick. I do miss the look of the factory 8.4, but the features of aftermarket make up for it and win me over, personally.
Farfromovin,

I have been hoping Maestro was going to create a piece for our GC's and am glad someone on the boards put one in so we can ask questions.

There are three questions I have for you (two on the Maestro and one on your stealthbox):

1.) Do the factory telephone controls on the steering wheel still work to control your Kenwood?

2.) Does the factory microphone still work with your Kenwood for phone calls and voice control?

3.) Did you find an empty stealthbox or did you buy the preloaded one and take the W3 out?

Any insight you could provide would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Brian

1) That depends. If I'm just using Bluetooth the buttons work but I have been able to successfully say "Call Stephanie". The voice r3cognituon gets hung up somewhere but I just tried this once. If I'm using Android auto, it's phenomenal and I can use the steering wheel voice recognition to say "Call the wife" and it always works. The hang up buttons work in either case.
2) We had to use the aftermarket mic. I put mine in the lower panel by your right knee. There is a little slot there that allows sound to come through. My call recipients so far say the mic works fine.
3) I bought a stealthbox and the stereo shop credited the w3 return towards the purchase of and w6. I'm sure w3's Andre great, I'm just used to w6's. In fact, I could have gotten away with 3 w3's off a hd1200/1 instead of 3 hd750/1's. That would've made things much easier but I love having headroom and power on tap!

Re: Scrapped factory system

Thanks for the quick response.

If I understand you correctly, the steering wheel phone controls work to control the voice commands for Google equivalent of Siri. Do you activate by pressing the voice recognition button on the steering wheel?

I wonder if you could use the factory mic's in the rear view mirror if you could find the wires in the car to tap into; its just a positive and negative connection, I think?

The handsfree microphone connection is in the black 52 pin connector behind the radio (C1)
Pin 39 X723 LB/TN 22 HANDS FREE MICROPHONE 2 IN (-)
Pin 40 X722 LB/DG 22 MICROPHONE 2 IN (+)

There is another microphone listed, but might be for the ANC system, same connector:
Pin 29 X792 LB/DG 22 MICROPHONE IN (-)
Pin 30 X712 DG/LB 22 MICROPHONE 1 IN (+)

Too many mods to list for each, so let's just say a lot was done over the years.

Re: Scrapped factory system

Question for you: Even with just the HK system in my 2015 Overland I am getting a ton of rattles in the front door panels and the rear lift gate area, any additional rattles with the increased fire power you have in your system now? Did you just dynamat the whole car?

I'm taking mine in to the dealer to get the rattles check out but figured it would be worth asking in case the matting really helped. Thanks.

Yes, the voice recognition button activates the Google voice recognition to navigate to places or call people, etc...

And I sound deadened everything in the back and the doors heavily. Only rattle is my sunglass holder so I put dyno mat in therear and wedged it shut with little foam strips. You can't see anything from the outside and I never used it even with a stock stereo cause my shades rattled against the plastic inside.

Re: Scrapped factory system

One last question (for now), does the volume knob for the factory radio control the volume on your Kenwood?

Yup, big round volume knob works, along with mute, as do steering wheel vol controls. Even the back key on the dash works on the radio. And the screen off button on the dash puts the Kenwood in standby.

FYI, These guys make a custom stealthbox also for the JGC in either a 10" or 12":

I am so happy you posted up about this item, I had no idea it existed. You are the man!

I have the new 2017 Trailhawk, I wonder if it will also show the other advanced vehicle pages such as the trailhawk specific ones or does it only offer the standard vehicle info?

Also what about all of the other vehicle options that are selectable through the Controls menu in the uConnect, are they available with this unit?
