SD Card Problems

I have down loaded about 1500 songs on to A SD card. When I play the card the display will indicate a much larger number of songs. Sometimes in says 3500 songs this AM it said 4880. Any ideas why this is happening?

Re: SD Card Problems

I would surmise your SD card is corrupt, or has become corrupted by the Uconnect system. I had the exact same experience when I first got my vehicle. Song counts kept changing every time I got in/out of the vehicle.

Try selecting "browse", then select a folder and scroll up/down and see how many of your songs are showing as duplicates in the display. Guessing most or all, maybe even some triplicates. Yet, when you eject the SD card and insert it into your computer, it will show the correct number of songs. What's even more bizarre, to my non-tech brain, is that you can select any of the duplicate or triplicate entries and they will all play.

Before you get a new SD card, try reformatting the current card (give it a different name also), reload the songs onto it, then use the lock tab on the SD card to lock it before inserting it into the SD slot in the vehicle. See if that works for you. If it doesn't, then try a different card.

In my case, I wound up taking the SD card back to Costco and getting a new one. The current card is locked and the song count is accurate and stable.

Good luck and if you don't mind, I'd like to know how this goes for you. I just have a particular interest in the "media" application and whether or not they fix some of these problems in an update. Problems like not being able to use "shuffle" mode within a folder, or "shuffle" mode not being retained when you stop/start the vehicle. Sometimes it is, most often it is not.

Re: SD Card Problems

After 3 months of driving I had the SD card lock up completely. (At the same time the VR Phone application was locked.) The VR Phone came back the next time I started the car, but the SD card did not.

Has anyone had this happen where the car just can't read the SD card? On the next start, it appeared as if it was going to work, but only played about 10 seconds of the song, then locked up. Exiting media, and removing the card did not work. I thought about removing that song from the card when I got to my PC, but the next time I started the car it all seemed to work.

I also experience the shuffle mode not being retained most of the time when shuting off the car...hope they fix that.

How do you "lock" the SD card?

Re: SD Card Problems

Driver 2020: Unfortunately (for me), I've had that exact same thing happen. If you are able to check it, I suspect the song count showing for the SD card, if/when it comes back, will be off by a significant factor.

My opinion is that your SD card finally achieved a level of corruptness equal to the legislative branch (complete failure).

Try this. Eject the card, and erase/reformat the card. After reformatting, reload it and then lock it before you re-insert it into the vehicle. To lock the card, there is a very small tab/switch on the side of the SD card. Normall a tiny little lock symbol adjacent to it that you can't see unless you are looking for it.

Early on, I had one SD card that was so bad I had to toss it. So, this might not fix it. But, the 2nd time it happened, I was able to reformat and re-use the SD card. I'd try that first.

I agree with you, "shuffle" mode not being retained is a bit annoying, as is not being able to use "shuffle" mode within a folder.

Good luck.

Re: SD Card Problems

Thanks for the reply. Yes, yesterday I was able to use the SD card on the way home. I will try your suggestion.

Another thing I tried yesterday, was to stop the song before turning the system off. Not sure yet if this will work but I will let you know.

Also, if you lock the card, can it be unlocked to add music latter?

Any special technique for transfer to the card? Should I transfer by all individual tracks and/ or Folders of your own created music files. Windows music player BTW.

Re: SD Card Problems

I have been transfering entire albums as a folder. I use Windows media player.

Worked fine for 3 months, now the card locks up. Tried to "pause" the song and exit to radio prior to shuting off the car. Also, locked the SD card but neiter trick helped.

I will be reformating the disk today.

Re: SD Card Problems

I had this issue as well a couple months ago, formatted and locked the SD card. I checked yesterday and even with the card locked, I still have duplicates. What I've now noticed is when I play music from my Journey folder, all songs not in a folder are duplicated and since I listen to that often, I have over 50 duplicates for the songs not in folders. I need to check that album and see what's so different with it and why it would cause this. I'm hoping my radio replacement will solve this issue as well.
