SD Card Requirements

Anyone know what the requirements are for using the SD card slot for music?
In other words, is there a space limit that the radio wont recognize? I tried a 32 GB SD card and it had a very tough time reading the card and eventually just errored out.
Does it need to be formatted with NTFS?

Re: SD Card Requirements

I have a 32 G card that I formatted and loaded with music from my i-tunes library. I find the SD and USB slots to be very finicky as far as when theyíll work. Sometimes Iíll get in fire it up and push the SD card in and bingo no issues. Then the next day it wonít read it. Seems as though if I eject it before I turn off the truck that helps later but no guarantee. Lately Iíve been removing the card after a week or so reformatting and loading it again. When I look at the card on my Mac itíll show the same song 3 times and for multiple artists. Itís really weird.
Folks around her have been getting mixed results with both systems. What works for some doesnít seem to work for others.

Re: SD Card Requirements

I've had same issue on 14 and now 16 Summit. I've given up and now just leave an ipod nano connected to usb port (works great). Won't have to worry about SD card or USB drive again. Should have done this a long time ago.

Re: SD Card Requirements

They must be aware of the issue but can't come up with a fix. What I can't get my head around is how the songs multiply? It's like each time you play a song it creates a copy of it. I had 5 copies of a Greg Kihn Band song when I checked on the weekend.

It'll even show up on the screen in my Jeep.

Re: SD Card Requirements

3 years now, and my 16 gb card works fine. Be sure to lock the card before you use it, and format to fat32. There are folks here that use a 64 gb card with no problems. There's a lengthy thread here somewhere that discusses all of this, and how to set up file structures. I get album art, and great search functions. Once you get the sd card set up properly, it's the only way to go.

edit: My bad, that discussion is on another forum: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f309/...-size-1738674/

Re: SD Card Requirements

I run a 32 gig card on my vehicle with no problems, but I use photo ready cards as they are faster and usually better quality. You do need to format to FAT32. Locking the card will prevent the problem some people have had with the system writing duplicate songs to the card.

That was the one thing I didn't do. Lock the card. Formatted and loaded and locked last night and although it's only been one day. So far so good.

Re: SD Card Requirements

UPDATE: okay so locking the card seems to have helped in one area. It sees the card and displays the album art. But now it plays the same song twice maybe three if I let it keep going. I forgot that it did this a while ago as well but stopped for some reason.

It will play the song then try and play it again. Then I hit skip and it plays the next song and then tries to play it again. I hit skip. See a pattern? For about 5 or 6 songs in a row and then play 1 or 2 without issue. I eventually get to the point where I can't stand it any longer. Back to XM

"photo ready" most likely equates to Class 10 SD or microSD cards.

Just make sure that if you buy a microSD card you also get the SD card adapter (with the locking tab).

Personally, I only buy SanDisk cards.
Never had a problem with any SanDisk SD or microSD cards that I have (or flash drives).... Can't say the same for PNY.

Re: SD Card Requirements

I have a 2016 Summit with the most recent 16.09 firmware.

Just bought a 256GB SDCARD and it works fine. Formatted exFAT.

This is the ticket.

I think your song multiplied on the SD card. If you plug in the SD card into a computer and check the folders, you might notice this. I was having all the same issues when I bought an SD card and loaded it up with music. I tried all the tricks and couldn't get the damn system to just comply and work like it should. It got to the point all media functions were messing up, so I migrated all my music to a small usb drive and haven't had any issues since. There's something wrong with the radio software that the dealers could never figure out and always pointed back to my SD card being the problem and not the vehicle.

Re: SD Card Requirements

I gave up on the SD card and went back to a 16 GB USB a while ago. My issue now is that it only displays 20 or so songs out of 50 that are loaded. ??? Is this an Apple issue? Purchased or protected songs wont show up on the list in the Jeep.? I make a list of what I want to listen to and put it in a folder and then copy those to the drive. That's what I've read that works.

Love the sound quality but hate all these little issues.
