Re: Searching for song on HDD - No "A-Z" option?

Hey Ratchet. Thanks for the update. Sorry to hear you are having the same issues even with all the things you have tried. Thanks for the tip on deleting. I thought the manual said that deleting a song from a playlist would not delete the song from the hard drive. I tried deleting from the playlist and the damn thing was still on the HDD. (Of course the song starts with the letter “N” so it took a while to find it only to confirm the “delete from playlist” did not work.)

I wonder if it has anything to do with the software version(s) we have. Have you had any updates? My ’11 GC was built July 2010. I had iPod issues and had some updates done about a year ago. I wonder if there is another update that would give us the abilities everyone seems to have. Just a thought…….

Re: Searching for song on HDD - No "A-Z" option?

Sponge, I have the most recent updates applied.

From the HDD, If I click browse>songs>play all songs. It starts playing all songs in alphabetical order. Option for song search is in the menu, but no option to select a specific letter via onscreen keyboard. I have tried this with different media formats and also only loading a small amount of music to the HDD. Still nothing.

I'm quite versed in electronics, but with the song search issue, either I'm an idiot or the function in question simply doesn't exist in its entirety.

What I've started doing is goto media>browse>artist and go from there. Once in "artist mode", I can use the left/middle steering wheel control to jump to next artist. I can also search artists via onscreen keyboard while in this mode. However, on some artists banks beginning with a certain letter, by only clicking the FIRST letter in that bank, it will automatically display all artists names beginning with that letter. On others, I have the option to type a few letters and the artist search is narrowed quite a bit.

I'll try to find some time to give my tech bud at the dealer a call and see if there is anything more recent than the version I am currently running. Maybe he can shed some light on the issue if he has come across it before.

Re: Searching for song on HDD - No "A-Z" option?

Ratchet – thanks for all the details. I will have to give your suggestions a try. It’s just so damn frustrating.

On another note, your previous suggestion on how to delete a particular song was correct. I guess if you only have one playlist and try to delete the song from it, it has nowhere to go but HDD purgatory. Which is also where I suspect our A-Z song search functions are currently residing. And what a bitc* it is to find a particular song to delete. The songs appear alphabetically by how and where the HDD decided to store them. I can’t believe something this easy is so hard. Then again, “There’s only one Jeep”.

Thanks for all your help. Please keep me posted if you find any useful info from your contact at the dealer.

Re: Searching for song on HDD - No "A-Z" option?

All of the music is caterogized alphabetically by artist via the music "ID Tag" embedded within the music track file itself. On occasion, I edit the "tag" via a old school PC music player called "Winamp". It also uses Gracenote to automatically tag music files. Quite handy if you have some broken tags that need repair and you don't feel like manually editing them.

Re: Searching for song on HDD - No "A-Z" option?

I have deleted the songs off of the HDD and use my Android phone now. The controls of the radio remind me of an old VCR, and not in a good way.

Even plugging an ipod/iphone in is painful unless you use a aux cable and bypass the radio.

I love this new jeep but things like the transmission programming/radio/gauges make me question my purchase sometimes.
