Shark Fin Antenna Install Demo

Some people have asked how to install Visual Garage's Shark Fin Antenna on the GC. Here's how I did it:

Clean the area around the antenna with rubbing alcohol.

Unscrew the OEM "pigtail" antenna from the base

Place the shark fin antenna in position (don't remove the adhesive cover) and use blue painter's tape to outline the antenna's shape. This will help you position the antenna perfectly when you glue it down.

It should look like this when you're done outlining

Screw the shark fin antenna to the OEM base making sure that the ring's tab (circled in yellow) points down. Otherwise, it will not fit.

Check the radio to make sure you have good reception.

Remove the adhesive cover paper and glue down the shark fin antenna (don't put pressure on it yet). Remove the blue painter's tape.

Follow the Visual Garage installation instructions to apply pressure for one minute.

Voila! Total installation time: less than 10 minutes.

Here's a shot of both our Explorer and Grand Cherokee sporting their Shark Fin Antennas!

P.S. This is my installation experience and it is not meant to replace Visual Garage's own installation instructions. Install at your own risk. I assume no responsibility if you screw-up. :D

Okay, now I'm intrigued - 1. where do I order one? - the VG site doesn't have anything for Jeep and 2. The paint's a good match? Just trying to see any downside here...

Why are they so, so concerned with the adhesion to the car? I know it has to stay on - maybe it's getting a ton of force up there?

Nice write up. Thanks. I look forward to seeing the ordering information.

I expect the adhesion is significant. Since this becomes part of an airfoil it must have nice "lift" at highway speeds.

There was a group buy earlier in the year from Visual Garage. Might be time for another. Here's a link to the original thread. (it also has the paint and sales codes listed)

Also, you might be able to contact them directly on the VG website.

Just call them or e-mail them through their contact form. Tell them you have a WK2 and the color. They'll match the paint (it's perfect) and send you an invoice. Very easy / hassle free process
