Why does the tutorial recommend an NTFS formatted USB? Does it not work, or does NTFS and FAT 32 mean the same thing?

I haven't updated my 2014 Cherokee yet but I did the download using an NTFS USB. I would like to know if I need to go back and do a new download.

Thanks

No, NTFS and FAT32 are different formats.

In my particular case, I used a freshly formatted NTFS USB and it didn't work. I cleaned the USB up, reformatted and downloaded the update twice more with no joy. So, I trolled around the InterWeb and discovered other folks experienced the same issue and reformatted their USB to FAT32. As soon as I reformatted it to FAT32 and downloaded the update it worked flawlessly.

Just sayin' "IF" someone has an issue

Thanks for the info.
I did a little search myself and it looks like FAT32 is perhaps a better bootable format for a USB drive than NTFS. I think you might be correct, although both formats should provide a bootable USB. NTFS is a newer format with some "improved" file management specifics.
I reformatted my USB to FAT32 and downloaded the update-will give it a try in a few days.

16.13.13 Failure!

Today I re-installed 16.13.13, which had been working properly until a few days ago.

The touchscreen has been very slow to execute commands. Two minutes or more between my pressing a soft-button and execution was typical. Three times I reset the system by pressing simultaneously the left and the right rotary controls. For a while, the system worked properly. Today, once again, UConnect 16.13.13 failed to respond quickly.

So far, so good. Time will tell. After all, it's a Jeep.

Gents,
Has anyone found this to work for export models?
I updated and noticed export models (Australia) don't have this feature enabled. Siri eyes not enabled for Aust models similar to problem with imputing addresses while in motion.

That sounds very similar to my issue with 16.16.13. Basically it was unresponsive and resetting it worked but only short term. The strange thing is when I installed it, I enjoyed the release for 3 weeks or so and then it suddenly stopped working. I too did a reinstall and it worked for a very short period, the next day it reverted to being unresponsive again. I've logged a case with UConnect on it and recommend that you do the same.

The solution I worked through with UConnect Tech support was to roll back to the previous release. Sucks to lose the Siri functionality, but I'll gladly take a usable system instead of Siri interaction. BTW, there is an update coming out sometime in August 2016 so this is part of there reason I'm suggesting logging a case with UConnect for folks that are having issues. Hopefully they'll get these bugs worked out by the time that update is released.

This problem almost sounds like a Software Memory Leak.

Re: Siri update now available for 2014 8.4an

In an online chat, the Jeep agent told me that I must go to a dealer in order to register a case.

If this recurring problem of badly written code, not to mention obsolescent hardware and firmware, isn't the last straw, I don't know what is.

The solution for me may be to trade in my unreliable Jeep for a vehicle not made by FCA.

Agreed, it sure does behave like a memory leak. What is particularly interesting to me is that it worked for say 3 weeks and then all of a sudden stopped working.

You don't need to go to a dealer to register a case for an issue with UConnect. All you need to do is to contact them directly. Call them, I've found them to be helpful and reasonable to deal with.

Re: Siri update now available for 2014 8.4an

I installed the UConnect update on my 2014 GC this morning with no issues. I am impressed with the CarPlay feature, having tested it with messaging, weather, calendar, contacts and navigation. I read somewhere that the iPhone had to be connected by cable to the USB hub but it also worked with Bluetooth. I have Nav in my Uconnect and the voice guidance with CarPlay is a bit more clearer to follow. I have a 6s and don't refer to its screen when driving.
