Just updated my 2014 GC with 8.4an system and now can invoke Siri using the steering wheel command button. Haven't had a chance to play with it too much yet since I just ran out to the parking lot during lunch and did it.
It is a relatively simple process to do yourself, or alternatively you can have your dealer do it for you.
Go to Uconnect® Software Update - Update your Uconnect® System and put in your VIN # to check for eligibility.
Download the software and follow instructions to extract the files onto a flash drive. Printable instructions guide you through the specific steps that you MUST follow in order to install the upgrade. Failure to do so may result in the radio getting gummed up and having to redo or even visit the dealer for a reset.
The process took about 20-25 minutes and now results in the following.

I could use some help on this update as I dont want to screw this up.
Im using a Mac and am eligible for the update on my 2015 Overland. I cant use the Akamai assist so I have to download the file directly from my browser. When I do so, I get the following Zip file which when clicked opens up the .iso attachment (see below)
When I click on the .iso file, it opens up into this:
What am I supposed to drag into my thumbdrive? Is it that entire "SWDL 3.iso" or am i supposed to drag a specific folder from the 2nd photo above?
The thumb drive will need to be bootable so I believe you do need to follow the steps. Just dragging the file to the drive is probably not enough but the install should probably just fail if you try it that way...
Does not need to be bootable just needs to be formatted in FAT filesystem.
once you format the usb drive to fat in disk utility drag the "swdl.iso" to the flash drive. (take the space and 3 out of the name) looks like you unzipped it a few times or something so it appended a number at the end. Then stick it in the usb slot next to the sd card reader with the ignition in the on position (car doesn't need to be running but it does take 15-20 min) you will see a message pop up once the headunit detects the update file after a min or so. (not longer than 3 min)
Update went fine no issues. I don't use apple products but sometimes software updates can include other smaller unadvertised fixes/improvements, not saying that is definitely the case here but it usually doesn't hurt to be on the latest software version. It is strange how the written directions say be sure to not start the car for the update and the video says the car must be running. I don't think it really matters as long as the car doesn't time out in the middle of the update.
LOL I do it while i'm driving home from work. Don't sit around for no reason the update can happen even while driving! Just finished loading this update on my drive today 3rd update I've applied and none have ever failed.
I also had the alpine amplifier updated today at the dealer so I can't tell if thats the reason the sound seems to be much better or this update. I'm not sure but definitely got rid of the sleepy amp symptom and the sound is noticeably better!
I may have missed a thread, but is there an update for a 2011 Siri and Uconnect to work? Sorry to post here, but if some can point me in the the right direction, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.
Just updated to the new software and am having issues with the Siri Eyes Free feature. It seems that the microphone does not know when I stop talking and it continues to wait for more 'commands.' This did not previously happen when I would activate Siri either by pressing the Home button on the phone or saying 'Hey Siri.'
I am testing this out in my driveway with the motor off.
Is anyone having any similar issues?
I have an elaborate system in my car, so I am wondering if that's playing tricks on the microphone.

So is this any different then when i would just press the home button on my iphone? Basically it moves the button press from my ohone to the steering wheel?

Correct. Make sure you remove the UConnect pairing with your iPhone, reboot, then re-pair. Before I had done this, the performance was lousy as it seemed that Siri was always listening even after I'd stopped talking. Once I did that, it works just as you'd expect it to with iPhone.
It wouldn't surprise me if there were other enhancements not necessarily called out. Maybe I'm day dreaming but I thought the radio volume maxed out at 35 prior to the update. Today I noticed I could push it up to 38.
New drivers for the Sierra wireless card for better cell signal. I also noticed Sirius / EQ updates being flashed. Definitely worthwhile to update even if you don't use apple products but Siri eyes free kicks ass!!!
I noticed the option on the phone after you pair to show notifications and to sync the contacts is missing. Are you able to still hit a button on the screen to listen to text messages?
even though i have a '16 and don't expect this to apply, i went to the update site just to check. enter my VIN, get an error that reads:
Error with VIN number
Sorry, and error has occurred. Please ensure that the VIN number you entered is accurate and that you are using a supported browser then try again.
I updated my '14 GC Uconnect; on both it and my '16 Ram I have to unlock my iPhone 6's screen (by using fingerprint on home button or PIN) before a press and hold of the VR button activates Siri. Is that just me, or do others have to unlock the screen as well? If that's the way it's designed, it's just as easy to press and hold the home button on the iPhone to activate Siri since I'm there anyway.
Tried to install the update today but keeps locking up at 1% on module 10 and eventually gives me a sierra wireless card error. Not sure what to do or how to get the old firmware back. I hope I didn't brick my Uconnect. I was having trouble with the vehicle phone requires service intermittently before this....
If you do the power cycle in the instructions normally done at the end of the upgrade, do you get anything back on your Uconnect? If you do, and you have the older ISO image, you can just install it.
If it refuses to boot now, you will likely need dealer help.
Try installing from a different USB stick before you take it to the dealer - I remember several instances in the past where that resolved installation problems.
