Sirius Traffic in New Summit would have saved me?

Well, well - All April Foolery (rhymes with "Netcoolery" ) aside ... I was disappointed that the Jeep did not make it out of the rail yard on Friday.

My wife and I had a busy Saturday planned, so I wasn't too concerned that we couldn't get it on Saturday either.

Saturday was star-crossed though! We ended up driving all over the Valley of the Sun to various appointments - and the one constant was we kept running into freeway closures (due to construction) that caused traffic tie-ups which in turn caused us to run late to our appointments.

I told my wife that with the new Summit we would be getting Sirius Traffic (one year trial) and that it would have saved our bacon if we'd had it.

Perhaps someone who has been using it can confirm that Sirius Traffic would have helped?

Edit: Oh yeah ... we ended the day by having someone rear-end us at a stoplight. Fortunately it was low-speed and just scratched up the bumper of my wife's 128i (we'll get it checked out of course). I guess it would have really torqued me if that had happened on the first day of driving my WK2!

Re: Sirius Traffic in New Summit would have saved me?

It may have. The traffic feature does seem to take a bit of time to load. (to show you graphically if the roads are green/yellow/red) Sometimes, though, the alternate directions could be better to avoid the traffic and/or accidents. But this is something that needs to be worked on by many of the factory GPS installed systems. (getting the best directions right away)

One thing I do like is that it will list all of the traffic events that will affect your drive. (i.e. construction going on on various roads, etc.)

I also use my Android with Google Maps. If both systems are giving me the same directions, I figure that's the way I should go to avoid the heavy traffic.

Yes it would have helped. I have Sirius Traffic in 730 N RER and it help me many times driving 1,300 round trip to FL and back. It warned me about consturction and other back-ups.

They are usually good for construction, but for accidents or other tie ups, by the time the systems catch up and warn you, you are already stuck in the stop/go. They are also late with road clearing, so you may unecessarily make detors. The systems are getting much better, however. The google maps seem to be accurate 90% of the time, but they do miss tie ups.

I found this is the case- by the time an accident has a good backup going that makes its way into the system, it's already begun to clear out. The one time I had it route me around traffic I actually lost a minute or so because the backup was beginning to clear- when I made it back to the highway, I was passing the same vehicles I had passed right before the jam.
