SiriusXM Traffic: Useless or What?

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I can't for the life of me understand why ANYONE would acutally pay money for this shitty service.

It just doesn't update traffic in real time, period. For instance, it always shows "red" for traffic on the same sections of rt. 93N Monday - Friday when going home from work...even when it's not heavy, it shows "red" on sections of feeder roads when there's no traffic at all, and it gives verbal traffic warnings (example: "traffic jam on rt. 93N between exits 12 and 14") for non-existent traffic.

Do I not have something turned on or set correctly on my 8.4AN radio? My free year subscription is not even close to expiring...and everything else seems to work.

Re: SiriusXM Traffic: Useless or What?

Worked (works) decent in the areas I drive, central and Northern Jersey. I didn't renew as I don't like the sound quality of SXM.

Works great for me in Seattle. I also don't like the sound of XMSirius but I found that you can just subscribe to traffic only for $49 a year.

Might consider that, thanks! It's helped me out a few times the first year.

Re: SiriusXM Traffic: Useless or What?

Might be a problem related to your radio. Try updating the firmware or try relishing the old one again. Works great for me in Chicago.

I cancelled my traffic and use traffic on Garmin purchased for wife's car. Even though I have navigation in my JGC, updates don't cost for her Garmin.

Re: SiriusXM Traffic: Useless or What?

First year mine worked great around Cincinnati. It would even route me around the heavy traffic if I had programmed in a destination. After the first year I've had nothing but trouble. Would not tell me that I was in heavy traffic even if I was stopped in traffic for 20 minutes. Had been on the phone with Sirius getting the radio reprinted to no avail. Cancelled my subscription. My Garmin does a better job keeping track of traffic flow.

Re: SiriusXM Traffic: Useless or What?

I let Sirius/XM go after the first year, but decided to keep the traffic only because it is pretty cheap and can be helpful sometimes. My biggest problem with it is living in Southern California, it is CONSTANTLY saying "traffic ahead between exits 50 and 51...traffic ahead between exits 51 and 54....traffic ahead between exits 54 and 58...etc while I am using the NAV. " I know there is traffic ahead, I live in So CAL for crying out loud stop telling me!! It gets to be really annoying- if anyone knows of a way to silence the traffic warnings without silencing the verbal directions I would love to know how?

I do like having the traffic shown on the map and it is pretty accurate here most of the time, however the re-routing is pretty worthless as it almost never saves time and often will actually be slower than just staying put. I treat it as information only (i.e., how far does this traffic jam go for) and for that it is pretty good.

worthless in my opinion. Google maps is typically more up to date and even show accidents. Also, will route you around if its really bad.

Re: SiriusXM Traffic: Useless or What?

One of my highways is closed for a major overhaul. The maps/traffic indicate that. However, a connecting highway is still loaded and tries to force me down its path. That highway is always backed up with 20mph moving traffic trying to jump over to another open highway.

One trick I use after loading "Go Home" from work, I open up OPTIONS and click on View Turns. I select the clogged up highway and then click "avoid". It re-routes me with a much better route. I also do this when it indicates traffic on my route is bad. I will look at the Traffic app and only view roads on my route. I can then do the same thing with "avoid" and it mostly gives me an updated route avoiding the jam.

So far so good for me.

I just use the waze app on my phone, not even renewing my trial subscription
