Sirrius radio reception

I travel 100 miles a day so to me the Sirius radio is a necessity and I have had on in my vehicles pretty much from the start when you had to run the antenna yourself. In all that time I have never had such poor reception as I get on my JGC. Now I read about a service notice about changing the antenna but that applies to vehicles build before mine was.

I contacted Jeep and they said contact a dealer who said that the notice does not apply to my vehicle. I asked that they check to see if I do indeed have the newer antenna that supposedly fixes the problem.

I am not talking about those 1 second breaks you get when you go under some bridges but 10 second loss of signal in areas where I never had a problem.

So does anyone else have this problem and has anyone had the new antenna installed and found that the issue was gone?

Any ideas would really be appreciated.

Re: Sirrius radio reception

I've heard folks have had connector issues, Have your dealer check it out. Could be a loose wire.

Claims it applies to: This bulletin applies to WK/WD vehicles built on or before November 09, 2013

However, I haven't seen any new GCs on the dealer lot that have the whip antenna shown--just shark fins. I'd have another chat, possibly with a more service oriented dealer if there is one in your area.

If anyone has that whip antenna, would appreciate a picture installed to see if it sucks or not.

Re: Sirrius radio reception

the tsb covers many vehicles, with and without whips. AFAIK the replacement antenna is either a sharkfin or a whip, same as the original.

I'm waiting for parts for this on my '14.

The replacement antenna for a 2014model is a shark fin. I have already had mine replaced and it made Sirius/XM work correctly

Ahh, bless you. I'd been dreading having it done because I didn't want that whip type, and it mostly cuts out in local steep canyons.

Re: Sirrius radio reception

I had great sirius satellite reception with my 2011 Overland. Driving the same commute route with my new 2014, not so much. I had the TSB completed last month, no change with the new shark fin antenna. Sirius is pretty much unusable for over half my route. Everything else about the new Overland is great, to bad they flubbed on the antenna.
