Any of you tech wizards know if the new iPhone 4S will have SMS text-to-speech over Bluetooth? I know the 730N RHR has this capability, but this feature doesn't work with current iPhones (supposedly due to a Message Access Protocol).
I saw a new Bluetooth 4.0 spec for the 4S, but don't know what that means. I also saw the 4S can generate text to speech for output over the iPhone speaker, but I hope it can do the same over Bluetooth and output over the Jeep speakers.
Btw, iOS5 will be a free upgrade for the iPhone4 on Oct. 12th.....so I guess we will find out soon . Im planning on upgrading asap so I will let you know what I find
If siri works as good as its described it will be far too advanced to use some old tech built into to these jeep radios for sending off a text. At this point we need an upgraded version of lockpic etc, to simply mirror the iphone on the jeeps display (and pass audio). Hopefully by bluetooth or some version of airplay please...
i'm betting you will have to select the iPhone in the "media" tab for the it to play the test talking, like you would to stream music from your phone to the radio over bluetooth. This is, unless, Siri is smart enough to tell the radio that it wants to talk to it (a feature of BT 4.0). This would change everything.
I paired my iPhone 4S to the 730N RHR and phone calls are crystal clear. When I received an SMS text I hit the button on the iPhone to ask Siri to read it to me. Imagine my surprise when the radio muted and Siri began interacting with me over the Jeep's bluetooth! Siri read the message and asked if I wanted to reply. I said yes and dictated my message to Siri and the message was sent. The radio resumed playing. It blew me away.

Did you try to stream music? I could also use the iphone 4s phone functions, but when I try to stream it dosen't work. When I look at the paired phone menu it has a red cross through the music icon.
Yup. I don't generally stream from the phone but I tested it a few days ago and music streaming works fine. I selected the AUX menu then touched the big, fat iPhone button. Easy peasy.
