Re: Someone please help me

After six weeks of arduous legwork on my part, Chrysler has finally acknowledged their faux pas on the media center. It is, in fact, getting a speed signal from the speedo and adjusting the volume accordingly. They failed to include a feature that allows the driver to shut off this feature.

The only way to fix it is with an AllGig module by NavTV. This module will filter out the speed information being sent to the head unit, and I will be able to listen to music without the volume constantly fluctuating.

As for your responses to my initial post, thank you all for reminding me why I don't typically go on forums. I finished grade school years ago, but obviously, some of you are still attending. How about a lesson in maturity?

There are a couple ways/modules to eliminate the speed signal, all the so called lock picks that allow Nav entry on the move should do that. There is no question that the computer (not speedo) sends speed info to the radio for function lock out purposes, that's nothing new. But adjusting the volume is just wild.

Not that I'm questioning what you heard but I'd like to see the chrysler response (written on the repair receipt) scanned in and posted here as not only here-say can be unreliable, I have known many a cheby dealer to tell you something like that, or worse, when they just want to git rid of a customer. The fact they say the radio gets the signal from the speedo (incorrect) has me suspect, and a bit skeptical of what the dealer is telling you.

What country are you in?

None of the Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge 130, 430 or 730 series have speed-sensitive volume control of any kind. Any perceived volume changes are purely imaginary. I have speed-sensitive volume controls in both my other cars (GM and Ford), and I know how it behaves. Again, the lack of speed-sensitive volume controls on Chrylser products has been discussed and confirmed many times on various Chrysler Forums (300, Challenger, Charger, etc). If you do an Internet search on the topic, you will also find the answer is No.

Mopar actually makes an optional Variable Speed Volume Control accessory, unfortunately it is only designed to work with the Dodge Viper:

Re: Someone please help me

I'm in Los Angeles, California.

My volume drops off by about 10% on deceleration and conversely, increases by about the same on acceleration. I am not imagining it. I'm perplexed by this reluctance to believe me. I have an RHB 430N manufactured by Mitsubishi electronics. The speed sensing has been confirmed by both Chrysler and the manufacturer of the radio.

I refuse to reply to this anymore. This has been a waste Of my time

Re: Someone please help me

I have the SAME 430N and it does NOT drop the volume or raise the volume. I have a couple of friends who are Jeep Grand Cherokee engineers and I will give them a shout to see whats going on.

Sorry we are acting like children, but you might have the only one on the planet. I enjoyed that feature in some of my other vehicles, and I wish jeeps had it.

Re: Someone please help me

My wife has a 2012 Laredo X and it does the same exact thing.

The dealership is checking in with the "engineers" (whatever the hell that means) and Mitsubishi is checking on the problem as well.

It's presumed to be a "whoops" on the part of the Mitsubishi engineers.

Needless to say, it's irritating as f*ck. This has been an unwanted education in Chrysler's unfamiliarity with it's own products. My search for a "solution" is going on nearly two months.

I build million-dollar residences for a living, and believe me, that has its complications. However, I have never experienced anything quite as complicated as this in my professional career.

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on an AllGig by NavTV if its going to filter out the speed sensing to the head unit.

I love the car, but this puts a major damper on my full enjoyment of the car.

Thanks, really appreciate it.

BTW, there is a member "Bane2500" who posted about the same problem in the Tech/DIY forum. He posted in May 2012. I replied to his post to see if he found a solution, but he never responded. Perhaps he does not log on here anymore.

Re: Someone please help me

I think your dealer is mistaken, and possibly the folks you spoke to at Chrysler. Don't spend any money trying to fix this problem. To satisfy yourself that the volume is not supposed to be speed controlled, ask your dealer if you can drive another vehicle with the same radio and see if it happens. If not, they should just be able to switch out the radio in your Jeep. As stated above, the only speed signal sent to the radio is to lock out some features of the Nav. If your volume is changing by itself, it is being caused by something else, either in the radio itself or there is another problem.
