Re: Someone please help me

The 430N is composed of two pieces, the head unit and a UConnect module, both with different programs. The UConnect module adapts things like the mic, Bluetooth, and USB (iPod) interfaces to the head unit. The UConnect module may also be controlling the amp, I dunno, but something to keep in your mind as you journey on the quest to solve your problem. I found mention of speed sensitive volume on units that don't have VES, but usually the export versions. The new larger screen Chrysler radios that have started to be released will have speed sensing volume control features, but I don't think those are mitsi units.

Good luck.

I've also looked into whether or not there is an engineering menu on this unit. There is not. And no softkey option on the audio menu, obviously.

Btw, in my extensive search online regarding this issue, I did find the fix for disabling it in the Mercedes Apparently there is a wire you cut at the back of the Din

Re: Someone please help me

You think that navigation lady is trying to speak and give out directions? Usually, when navigation (route guidance) is on and when getting the directions, the radio audio goes down followed by the lady's voice.

You think the unit is giving directions without you asking for it? Maybe system thinks that the nav lady is going to give directions and it reduces the main volume...

Good luck.. I would love to see what the outcome of this problem is.

Cheers,
Aiyer

Re: Someone please help me

It's speed volume control. At this point it seems the U-Connect module is the culprit. They put the programming in their module. Hopefully I can defeat it with AllGig which filters out the speed info to the head unit. Since the AllGig module gets connected ahead of the U-connect module, there is a 60% chance this could work.

If not, then the only way around this is a new head unit. I am hoping the head unit is the amp's master and the amp is not picking up speed info independent of the head unit. Something tells me that wouldn't be the case. I dont know why they would go through such great lengths to do that.

Re: Someone please help me

do you have any videos of this happening? Can you visually see the volume go down on the screen?

Re: Someone please help me

No, the volume indicator values
Don't fluctuate.

I did more research yet again last night. Apparently this feature is becoming more common. It even shows up in MBs, BMWs, etc. there are some Mercedes models where the only way to deactivate it is to snip a wire at the back of the unit, and on the BMWs, there is no "off", you can only reduce sensitivity.

Like my situation, there is no mention of the feature in the owners manual. This is big brother, or in less paranoid terms, NTSA people pushing agendas on auto manufacturers.

Re: Someone please help me

My 98 SLK had speed varying audio as well as wipers, they were advertised as features. The radio also sensed when the top was up or down and adjusted sound level and tone accordingly. Had a nice big subwoofer behind the front seat, some of the passengers liked the massage. They did not adjust enough to be either effective or a nuisance, however. On/off control? No as those Germans knew better what was good for us than us mere mortals

That car also came with a collapsable spare tire and an air pump.

Re: Someone please help me

EUREKA!!!!

Just heard back from Mitsubishi. They confirmed that the volume is in fact being modulated by the amp. Now I need to know if the amp is getting the speed signal from
The HU or the independently by the onboard computer

Not in my vehicle (MY2011 Overland with 430N.) If I start my car in an underground parking garage and begin to move, the display shows that the GPSr has no satellite signal but the speed indicator is correct.

Note also that Lockpick works by interfering with the speedo packets on the CAN bus to make the head unit believe the car is not moving. In this configuration, it always displays a speed of 0 even when the GPSr is tracking.

Re: Someone please help me

I actually heard back from the service manager at the dealership yesterday. They contacted the Chrysler field engineer who connected his computer to another Cherokee with the 430N media center, and lo and behold, he identified the feature on his computer's engineering menu. He said he will likely be able to disable it!!!!!

The catch: I just have to wait 2 weeks when he returns from vacation. I think I can do that. Ive already waited nearly 3 months!
