Re: Sound move to the Right side then back to Center

Greetings,

Gravity, check this link out regarding the Alpine system:

Experience Alpine - Jeep

Unless they change something it should be the speakers as outlined in the above link.

For the Summit & SRT with HK system has 19 speakers in 14 locations. The 3.5 speakers are coaxial drivers that I believe use a passive crossover or a cap.. Technically, a coaxial speaker is made up of 2 speakers/drivers (the same applies to triaxial as well). It does not matter if it has a passive or uses the electronic crossover. Here with HK, it is made up of a separate midrange driver and a separate tweeter driver, thus 2 drivers per location on a single channel. This is not a single wide band full range driver.

The center, front door and rear pillar consisting of the 3.5 adds up to 10.
The remaining speakers in the front door is another 4.
The remaining speakers in the rear door is another 4.
The single (1) 10 inch sub makes up the 19 speaker (drivers) .

The use of coaxial speakers is very common in home and pro audio.

Best for now.

Re: Sound move to the Right side then back to Center

Okay jeep I understand what your saying. Each speaker location can drive or provide different frequencies of sound. But most are doing Mid and High end. Kind of a deceiving way to list the number of speakers. but I get it.

So now what, we're saying that I have the HK system? Because that's what the dealer window sticker listed as my sound system. The HK.

So why can't I locate the Logic 7 and turn it off?

I appreciate your knowledge on this. I'm no stranger to speakers but i think you've dabbled a bit more than me.

Just made the jump....
I just checked out your custom install link. aaaaaah wow. Not your first rodeo . I know an HT home custom installer that walks your walk.

Very nice install Jeep. Wish I could hear it. Bet it sounds amazing.

My Lexus had a Mark Levinson system that people used to tell me sounded great ??? I thought it did as well. Better than the Jeep in my opinion. But to each his own. The never ending quest for that perfect sound or picture. It's what drives us all.

Thanks

Greetings,

Well put. Check out this thread for more opinions on the HK system:

From the horses mouth on the Harman Kardon System

Check out the other source material now that you know the bluetooth did not recreate the problem. This way it gives you a complete picture on what is happening. I do not have access to an HK manual, but for what other have told me the LOGIC 7 or it could say Surround Sound should be in the audio setup menu.

With the LOGIC 7 on, the center channel is pre-programed for a wide pattern. Many here have indicated it the front stage is dominated by the center. This is true because with my JBL MS-8, which has the LOGIC 7, I experience the same thing because you can touch that setting. Since I am running 2nd DSP and have access to my amp gains, I can control it better thru the use of the time delays and gain adjustments.

Keep us updated.

Best for now.

Okay latest update. I do have Surround mode On/Off. Or Logic 7. My HK receiver at home has a Logic 7.

I dropped in a CD this morning and didnít have any issues. Switched back to XM and turned the surround mode to ďOffĒ and it still happened. But not as much. Then I went back to CD and with surround On or Off it didnít fade to the right.

So Iím not sure what to say at this point.

Gravity, just a bit off topic, but which dealership in Calgary are you entrusting your Jeep, to? How has the service been so far?

Re: Sound move to the Right side then back to Center

I bought it from Renfrew and my wife works downtown so I'm going to give them a try. They can drop her off at work. Tower and Big 4 don't have a shuttle that goes downtown.

I was in Tower the other day thinking that i might use them but the gal back in service was the biggest bi%*h I've ever come across in my life. I turned around and walked out. Read on line about them and lot of negative feedback.

I think no matter where you go you won't be happy 100% all of the time. At least that's been my experience. I'm big on regular maintenance especially fluids. I have 5 years B-B on everything so we'll see.

Later

Greetings,

Now that bluetooth and the CD is working correctly, most likely the usb source should work as well. The steering logic for the surround sound is working and now can be eliminated from the problem.

The SirusXm and FM tuners that are equip with the GC are not the best in world to begin with. Their is a possibility that the balance & fade functions are not retaining the settings after they receive the source signal. Some here have report various variations of this problem.

Their are some TSB updates for the radio, the service center has to check you vin if those are for you.

Dealer said that I'm up to date as far as SB and recall and what not. Said I should take it for a test drive with the service manager to see what he thinks it could be. Honestly I think that they think I'm imagining this.

I'm going to live with it for a bit and maybe more people will have a similar issue. Then they'll react to it.

Who knows.

Re: Sound move to the Right side then back to Center

Greetings,

As long as you know the other sources are working fine, that is more important. I dumped SirusXm last year after almost 9 years of subscribing. The programming, IMHO, was getting terrible as with the sound quality was up and down. Their online service has much better sound quality.

Best for now.

Re: Sound move to the Right side then back to Center

I have been with them for almost 5 years and agree the programming is lacking. The bad signal quality is another factor. Apparently the terrestrial part of the signal needs to be boosted or more repeaters installed in our neck of the words. Or something along that line.

If a semi pulls along the south side of me I'll loose the signal every time. And I loose it traveling in the mountains if I have a high rock face on one side of the road.

So this morning listening to a thumb drive the sound shifted to the right again. :-( Then I started thinking is it moving or is volume on the left side simply fading away and then returning?

I then turned surround mode to off which in the grand scheme of things makes the music sound more natural to me. I don't think it happens at all when I have it switched off.
