Speaker mount height issues??

hey guys, I'm looking for component speakers for my front doors and when i went onto crutchfield and entered my jeep's info (2011 laredo), it narrowed it down to relatively few options. I contacted them through their chat feature and was told it was due to the speaker mounting height (the distance between the back of the speaker grille and the highest part of the actual speaker). He said there is only 0.54" of space available and that the speaker must have a mounting height less than that. This is relatively tight. Does anyone know if this is correct, and has anyone ran into this issue themselves?

Re: Speaker mount height issues??

It all depends on what size speaker you are replacing with. Most 6x9's will fit with no issue. If you are switching to 6.5's you need to use a adapter plate, which in return adds height.

I am using a thick 1/4 inch custom plate with no issues with my 6.5's. If I were you I would not be too concerned about hitting speaker grill. Too be safe use a thinner adapter plate.

Re: Speaker mount height issues??

A lot of speakers have tweeters that stick up way higher than the frame. This creates a problem for a lot of vehicles. I have not pulled the Jeep's panel yet, but ran into this with other vehicles. The grill of the door panel often can flex some, or buy speakers with flush (or lower) tweets.
