Stealthbox/Amp Question

I know some of you have installed the JL Audio stealthbox with an amp. Thru a search I saw that some of you have used the JL Audio JX500/1D and or the Alpine 5 Channel to power sub and front fill. I'm going to be putting in the JX500/1D and I was wondering for those that used that amp, where did you tap in the high level inputs? Some people mentioned doing it off the amp (between amp and speakers) on a full range signal going to the fronts. Did anyone go off the subwoofer leads at the rear? If you tapped between the amp and front full range speakers, where did you tap in and what wires did you use? Any help or insight to make this a little quicker would be appreciated. Thanks

Greetings,

Based on your description, it looks like you have the Alpine system and that is what will go by.

The best thing to do first is to located the amp to power the JL. Then located were you are going to ground to. From the position of the amp, you can either catch the speaker lead either from the factory amp or by the sub location. It is a matter of what ever is easier. Because the factory amp contains a built in DSP unit with the pre set crossover points already established their is no need to tap into into the fronts at all.

With regards to the type of amp to use in order power the Stealthbox, I always recommend to go with a Class D amp. It has a efficient draw on the alternator of the JGC were you will not be pulling a lot of amperage as oppose to the Class AB amp such as the JL Audio JX series. Look into their XD series and the audio quality is the same.

Best for now.

Thanks for your input. Yes, it is the Alpine system. And the JX is actually a Class D amp per JL Audios website, so I should be good there. I'll just run the speaker leads from the inputs on the stock sub and go from there! I plan on mounting the amp directly above the battery under the passenger seat to keep the power and grounds short.

Greetings,

My mistake. I forgot the JX has the mono Class D amps as well.

Yes, your install will work. Just make sure to run from the JL back to sub with 12 gauge speaker wire.

Good luck.

Best for now.
